star this property answer text <p>The UK and other EU Member States agreed, in principle, to the creation of the Permanent Forum on People of African Descent. The Permanent Forum was established during the 73<sup>rd</sup> session of the UN General Assembly by resolution 73/262. However, the UK and other EU Member States were unable to support this resolution. This was because of concerns around the specific modalities for its establishment, and that risk that the Permanent Forum could divert resources away from the full and effective implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which should remain the basis of all efforts to prevent, combat and eradicate racism.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Her Majesty's Government has no specific plans to mark the UN International Decade for People of African Descent. However, the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance remains a priority for the UK.</p><p>Domestically, the UK has one of the strongest legislative frameworks in place to protect communities from hostility, violence and bigotry and we keep it under review to ensure that it remains effective and appropriate in the face of new and emerging threats.</p><p>Internationally, we work through the United Nations to ensure the international community focuses on strengthening national, regional and international legal frameworks, in order to make a reality of the protections contained in the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.</p> more like this

Iran continues to deny consular access, as it does not recognise dual nationality. Nonetheless, we continue to request it. During our visits to Tehran, the Foreign Secretary and I underlined our deep concern about the treatment of Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe and other British-Iranian dual nationals detained in Iran, and reiterated our request for their release.</p> more like this

We continue to raise Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s case with the Iranian Government at every opportunity, which includes making requests for consular access. I did exactly this during my visit to Tehran on 23 June. We continue to work to secure her unconditional release.​</p> more like this

However this was a Gibraltar-led operation which the UK was asked to support in upholding what is a European sanctions regime. star this property answer text <p>We are urgently considering how we can assist UK orphans. Given the UK has no consular presence in Syria, this is extremely difficult. The Foreign Secretary has made clear that the Government will seek to assist any British unaccompanied minors and orphans in Syria, who are brought to our attention.</p><p>Our advice to any British national abroad who needs emergency help from the British Government is to contact the nearest British Embassy or Consulate, which in this case will be outside Syria. If a minor is unable to do so, a request can be made on their behalf. British nationals can also call the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The number is clearly advertised on FCO Syria Travel Advice pages.</p> more like this
