	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/07/2022 answer text <p>Data on prisoners’ gender, ethnicity, age and religion is obtained through self-declaration by prisoners on reception into custody. Declaration rates across Sex, Age, Ethnicity &amp; Religion are high and present no barrier to publishing of prison population data.</p><p>We are currently developing a new service to improve the creation of prisoner records and collection of data which will include protected characteristics. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/07/2022 answer text <p>The accompanying excel file sets out figures relating to ratio of prisoners to Band 3-5 prison officer by prison (for public sector prisons), as of 31 March 2022.</p><p>The minimum number of staff on each residential unit required during periods of unlock is determined by ‘Safe, Decent and Secure Operating Levels’ (SDSOLs) which are agreed in each establishment. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/09/2022 answer text <p>The November 2021 prison population projections published by the <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1035682/Prison_Population_Projections_2021_to_2026.pdf" target="_blank">Office for National Statistics</a> show that the overall prison population in England and Wales is projected to increase to 98,500 by March 2026.</p><p> </p><p>This is largely due to the recruitment of an additional 20,000 police officers, which is expected to increase charge volumes, as well as the impact of courts working through the backlog of cases and implementing tougher sentencing measures to protect the public.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing £3.8 billion over the next three years to deliver 20,000 additional, modern prison places across England and Wales by the mid-2020s to meet this projected increase.</p> answering member constituency Pudsey answering member printed Stuart Andrew question first answered 05/09/2022 07:25:54 answering member 4032 label Biography information for Stuart Andrew
