star this property answer text <p>The Government tracks activity levels through Sport England’s Active Lives surveys. Two surveys run annually: Active Lives Adult, and Active Lives Children and Young People. These surveys measure the activity levels of people across England and allows the Government to collect accurate data on what and how much sport and physical activity different groups are participating in. You can find out more about the surveys on <a href="https://www.sportengland.org/research-and-data/data/active-lives" target="_blank">Sport England's website</a>.</p><ul><li><p>2009/10</p></li><ul><li><p>Active People survey - 15.2 million people took part in sport and wider physical activity for an average of at least 30 minutes a week.</p></li><li><p>Children and young people - Sport England only started collecting data in 2017.</p></li></ul></ul><ul><li><p>2018/19</p></li><ul><li><p>Active Lives Adult survey - 28.6 million took part in 150+ minutes of activity a week.</p></li><li><p>Active Lives Children and Young People survey - 3.3 million doing an average of 60+ minutes per day.</p></li></ul></ul><ul><li><p>2022/23</p></li><ul><li><p>Active Lives Adult survey - 29.5 million took part in 150+ minutes of activity a week.</p></li><li><p>Active Lives Children and Young people survey - 3.5 million doing an average of 60+ minutes per day.</p></li></ul></ul><p>It’s important to note that comparing data on a consistent basis across this time is not possible as the methodologies and metrics employed changed to reflect changes in the Chief Medical Officers’ (CMO) guidance.</p><p>Since 2010, the CMO guidelines on physical activity changed from five separate sessions of 30 minutes of at least moderate intensity physical activity in a week to at least 150 minutes of moderate equivalent intensity physical activity a week. In addition to this, Sport England’s remit has extended to include recreational activities and active travel.</p><p>Sport England does not record the number of volunteers in amateur football.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Event organisers, including National Governing Bodies (NGBs), are responsible for ensuring appropriate measures are in place to protect participants.</p><p>We recognise the need for water sport participants to have access to consistent and up-to-date data about bathing water quality. DCMS is working with relevant water based National Governing Bodies and the Outdoors For All Coalition to understand the barriers to accessing and participating in green and blue spaces.</p><p>Designated bathing waters and water quality monitoring in England is the responsibility of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Environment Agency (EA). DEFRA is a permanent member of the National Physical Activity Taskforce, which ensures that we deliver coordinated policy that will help encourage people to get active.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The collapse of BetIndex Ltd, the operators of the novel gambling product Football Index, had a significant impact on former customers, and we recognise the frustration and anger that this has caused. As a result, the Government announced an Independent Review, conducted by Malcom Sheehan KC, which looked at how the company had been regulated and identified lessons learned for various agencies including the Financial Conduct Authority. These recommendations have since been implemented.</p><p>Following the collapse of Football Index, the then-Minister held several meetings with the Gambling Commission, and officials have worked closely with their counterparts at His Majesty’s Treasury on the role of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in this case.</p> more like this

The Charity Commission has a strong framework in place for its use of consultants in delivering value for money. The Charity Commission’s Annual Report and Accounts are published online each financial year; these reports included spending figures for consultancy services. <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/64a7cc42c531eb001364fffe/Charity_Commission_Annual_Report_and_Accounts.pdf" target="_blank">The most recently published Report</a> is from 2022-23. The full Report and Accounts for 2023-24 financial year are due to be published in the Summer of 2024.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DCMS funds a number of programmes that are stimulating demand for youth workers, including through our National Youth Guarantee, which is backed by over £500 million of investment into youth services.</p><p>In addition, the updated statutory guidance for local authorities’ youth provision puts an emphasis on the importance of youth work practice and on employing or encouraging the employment of individuals with youth work skills and qualifications.</p><p>To support the youth workforce, DCMS funds the National Youth Agency to set professional standards, qualifications and a curriculum for youth work, including a youth work apprenticeship and free-to-access training. DCMS also funds youth worker bursaries which allows youth workers and volunteers to gain qualifications in youth work. To date, DCMS has funded over 2,000 bursaries and we are providing £1,075,000 for over 700 adults who would otherwise be unable to undertake youth work qualifications due to cost.</p> more like this

Whilst the British Youth Council has closed, we will continue to support the UK Youth Parliament as the national programme for democratic participation at the Local Authority Level.
