	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/06/2019 answer text <p>The Government’s mission is to put the UK at the forefront of the design and manufacturing of zero emission vehicles, and for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040. There are a number of manufacturers already producing vans in the UK or with ambitious plans to begin production in coming years. The Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) offers a comprehensive package of support for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs). This will see nearly £1.5bn invested in total over the period 2015-2021.</p><p> </p><p>In order to ensure the development of new technologies happens in the UK, OLEV has awarded over £300m in grants via Innovate UK, supporting vehicle manufacturers, technology companies and academia in delivering a major programme of R&amp;D into ULEVs, including vans.</p><p> </p><p>In order to incentivise the purchase of ULEV vans, grant funding has been available since 2012. The plug-in van grant provides 20% of the price of a qualifying vehicle to a maximum grant amount of £8,000, or £20,000 for the first 200 large vans (3.5t+) or trucks, and will be available in some form until at least 2020. Our grant funding for chargepoint infrastructure in homes, at workplaces and on residential streets, as well as the upcoming Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund, all support charging infrastructure for ultra-low emission vans.</p><p> </p><p>In order to aggregate demand for these vans, Government has focused on the biggest fleets. Working with environmental NGO Global Action Plan, 27 of the UK’s largest van fleet operators have joined the Clean Van Commitment committing to transition their total fleet of 65,000 vans to electric by 2028. Again, to support demand, we have legislated to increase the weight allowance for certain alternatively fuelled vans that drivers can drive on a standard Category B driving licence. In 2018, packaging and other recovered papers amounted to nearly 8 million tonnes, of which over 3 million tonnes was consumed by UK mills and nearly 5 million tonnes of material exported for use in other countries.[1]</p><p> </p><p>Our primary aim is to process more waste domestically, including recycled paper. Industry and academic partners are working on research and development projects to explore factors affecting degradation; they regularly publish scientific papers on their findings.</p><p> </p><p>An £11 million “Extending Battery Life” project, funded by the Faraday Institution, has published more than 15 scientific papers on understanding battery degradation mechanisms and is moving into solving them. Their Multi-Scale Modelling project is also looking at battery degradation and modelling tools to improve battery design. The company has set out the steps it has taken, consistent with the Government’s guidance, on worker safety; job protections utilising the Job Retention Scheme; developing and donating Personal Protective Equipment; and manufacturing ventilators.</p><p> </p><p>We have discussed with Rolls-Royce the various Government business support schemes available to the company and its suppliers. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/05/2020 answer text <p>Manufacturing is a critical part of our economy and the Government is engaging with industry to ensure that we can support our manufacturing sectors during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.</p><p> </p><p>Many businesses across the aerospace, chemical, automotive, steel, aluminium, pharmaceutical, packaging, and other sectors are playing a direct role in combatting COVID-19. These businesses are producing the materials and equipment necessary, as well as enabling the services that we need to fight the spread of the virus and keep the country running.</p><p> </p><p>We have put in place an unprecedented package of Government support to help with business continuity and to give manufacturers and their suppliers the support they. These measures include:</p><ul><li>£330 billion worth of Government-backed and guaranteed loans to support businesses across the UK.</li><li>The Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) to help small and medium-sized businesses to access vital financial support.</li><li>Our new Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS) to allow more firms to benefit from Government-backed support.</li><li>The Bounce Back Loans scheme for small businesses, which complements the CBILS and CLBILS schemes.</li><li>Deferring VAT payments for firms to the next quarter, until the end of June, which represents a £30 billion injection into the economy.</li><li>Our Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, where small and large employers will be eligible to apply for a Government grant of 80% of workers’ salaries up to £2,500 a month. I continue to hold weekly meetings with the Trade Unions where they are able to feed into the recovery roundtable process and a dedicated meeting to discuss economic recovery is being organised. As part of our planning for the future UK economy, we will be policies that will move us towards a stronger, fairer, greener economy that builds on UK strengths, such as science and entrepreneurship.</p><p> </p><p>We have invested £350 million in the seven High Value Manufacturing Catapult centres across the UK, which are supporting manufacturers to bring new technologies to market, and we will be investing an additional £600 million by the end of 2023.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the Future of Transport Grand Challenge, we are working with the Department for Transport to ensure firms, including e-bike manufacturers, have access to the right supply of talented labour and the right business support, including access to finance.
