We are closely engaging with the UN’s Humanitarian Co-ordinator and organisations delivering humanitarian assistance to establish the severity of the operating conditions they are facing.</p><p> </p><p>The UK continues to call on all parties to the conflict to comply with UN Security Resolution 2451 to facilitate safe, rapid, and unhindered access for humanitarian actors. We are clear that there can be no military solution to this conflict. A political settlement is the only way to provide long term stability to Yemen and address the worsening humanitarian crisis. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/10/2019 answer text <p>Yemen remains the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with nearly 80% of the entire population, over 24 million people, requiring some form of humanitarian assistance. More than 20 million people in Yemen do not have reliable access to food and almost 10 million people face extreme food shortages.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £200 million in response to this humanitarian crisis this financial year, bringing the total UK commitment to Yemen to £770 million since the conflict began in 2015. We fully support the peace process led by the UN Special Envoy, Martin Griffiths, and urge the parties to engage constructively with this process. On 26 September, the UK co-hosted a political event at the UN General Assembly to coordinate the international community’s support for the UN-led peace process and endorse the Special Envoy’s plan to begin wider political discussion.
