These include a Train Crew Rostering System, Decision Support System and Fleet Diagnostics System. The Government is not aware of any plans by franchised operators to reduce the number of guards rostered on train services, and it welcomes the commitments made by Northern and South Western that a guard will continue to be rostered on every train after the introduction of Driver Controlled Operation (DCO).</p><p> </p><p>The ORR, the independent rail regulator, and the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) have found that DCO is safe. In addition, at the start of this year the new Millennial railcard went on sale, allowing young people to save money on their travel. As a result of our £80m investment in smart ticketing, passengers now have an alternative to the paper ticket across almost all of the network, making buying and using their ticket significantly more convenient. Later this year more options will become available, including travel across different operators. The Senior Railcard offers anyone 60 years or over discounts on many fares on the network and the Disabled persons railcard also entitles a carer 1/3 off their rail fares when travelling with a person holding the railcard.</p><p> </p><p>We are currently undertaking work with the Rail Delivery Group and Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee to review the eligibility criteria of the Disabled Persons Railcard. As part of this we will be examining how we can improve provisions for carers/support workers or companions.
