	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/01/2024 answer text <p>NHS England is delivering a range of interventions that are expected to increase early diagnosis and improve outcomes for those with pancreatic cancer. This includes providing a route into pancreatic cancer surveillance for those at inherited high-risk to identify lesions before they develop into cancer and diagnose cancers sooner; creating new pathways to support faster referral routes for people with non-specific symptoms that could be linked to a range of cancer types; and increasing direct access for general practitioners to diagnostic tests.</p><p>NHS England is funding a new audit into pancreatic cancer, the aim of which is to provide regular and timely evidence to cancer service providers of where patterns of care in England may vary, to increase the consistency of access to treatments and to stimulate improvements in cancer treatment and outcomes for patients. The Royal College of Surgeons began work on this audit in October 2022 and a scoping exercise in consultation with key stakeholders has taken place to shape the direction of the audit. In developing the Masterplan for Euston Station, our development partner, Lendlease, is considering how the history of the station at Euston should influence and best be reflected in the future designs. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/11/2023 answer text <p>NHS England commissions 47 specialised cystic fibrosis centres for adults and children across England, in addition to supporting the optimal monitoring of patients with cystic fibrosis at home, and supporting best practice in remote consultations.</p><p> </p><p>Through these centres, NHS England provides a range of innovative treatments including inhaled therapies such as nebulised antibiotics. Since 2019, thousands of people with cystic fibrosis have been able to benefit from licensed treatments – firstly Orkambi and Symkeviand then Kaftrio, following its marketing authorisation in 2020. Access to these treatments is provided under the terms of a commercial agreement reached between the manufacturer, Vertex and NHS England, with the full support of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).</p><p> </p><p>Within the agreement between NHS England and Vertex, there is a flexible commercial mechanism to ensure continued access for patients already receiving any of the licensed treatments following the conclusion of a full NICE evaluation.</p><p> </p><p>On 3 November 2023, NICE published a consultation on draft guidance that did not recommend these treatments as a cost-effective use of NHS resources. This draft is an initial step in the review of these medicines and does not affect patients’ continued access to these drugs on the NHS in any way. Eligible children and adults with cystic fibrosis can continue to receive ongoing treatment and be initiated onto treatment with these drugs, as clinically appropriate.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>NHS England remains committed to ensuring that these life-changing cystic fibrosis medicines are available to everyone who may benefit, now and in the future, and will continue to work with Vertex and NICE through the next stages of the appraisal process to make this possible in a way that is fair to patients and taxpayers.</p> answering member constituency Pendle answering member printed Andrew Stephenson question first answered 17/11/2023 14:30:56 answering member 4044 label Biography information for Andrew Stephenson

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/01/2024 answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) does not take the size of the affected community into account when making recommendation on the clinical and cost effectiveness of medicines.</p><p>In 2017, a Budget Impact Test was introduced to mitigate the affordability challenge that higher cost medicines for large patient populations can present to the National Health Service, even at a cost-effective price. If the estimated budget impact of a medicine exceeds £20 million in any of the first three years of its use, NHS England may engage in commercial discussions with the company to mitigate the impact that funding the medicine would have on the rest of the NHS.</p><p>NICE is currently developing guidance for the NHS on the clinical and cost effectiveness of Kaftrio and other cystic fibrosis medicines and is engaging with patient groups as part of the appraisal process. NICE recently consulted on its draft recommendations and is now engaging with key stakeholders to determine the most appropriate next steps.
