It is an offence under section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000 to carry or display articles supporting a proscribed organisation, or to publish an image of an item of clothing or other article, such as a flag or logo, in the same circumstances.</p><p> </p><p>Data relating to these section 13 offences are grouped with other proscription offences (sections 11 and 12 of the Act) in the publication ‘Operation of Police Powers under the Terrorism Act 2000’. The most recent publication, up to year ending March 2020, was published on 11 June on GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/operation-of-police-powers-under-the-terrorism-act-2000-financial-year-ending-march-2020.</p><p> </p><p>Proscription sends a strong message that terrorist organisations are not tolerated in the UK and deters them from operating here. It is one of the key tools available to the Government, police and Security Service to disrupt terrorist activity. This means an organisation can be proscribed if it commits or participates in acts of terrorism, prepares for terrorism, promotes or encourages terrorism (including the unlawful glorification of terrorism) or is otherwise concerned in terrorism. In addition, proscription must be a proportionate action to take. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/03/2022 answer text <p>The effect of the Online Safety Bill on terrorist content has been considered as part of the published Impact Assessment.</p><p>The Bill will require all in-scope companies to prevent terrorist content from being uploaded onto their sites, and when it is uploaded, to remove it immediately. The duty of care overseen by Ofcom will set a high standard that all in-scope platforms will need to meet, and therefore increase the amount of terrorist content that is identified and removed.</p><p>Those who fail to do so, will need to answer to an independent regulator, Ofcom, who will have the power to require all in-scope companies to use automated technology to identify and remove terrorist content from their public channels.</p><p>The Government has also pressed companies to increase the use of technology to automate the detection and removal of terrorist content where possible. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/04/2023 answer text <p>It is an offence under Section 11 of the Terrorism Act 2000 to belong to, or profess to belong to a proscribed organisation in the UK or overseas.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) provides national security clearances to government, including certain posts in policing. As part of this, UKSV assesses an individual’s vetting application and any related risks. Where an individual is known to have or has declared affiliations or membership to a proscribed organisation, their application for national security vetting will not be approved.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>UKSV and government organisations have ongoing controls in place to manage staff and review their security clearances. These include annual reviews of security clearances for higher level clearance holders, change of circumstances forms, and additional reporting mechanisms through which concerns may be raised for all clearance holders.
