star this property answer text <p>Our points-based system works for the whole of the UK by welcoming people to fill skills gaps, support our public services and boost our economy.</p><p>Furthermore, the Shortage Occupation List also includes occupations which are in shortage and are specific to Scotland, such as chemical scientists and Gaelic teachers.</p><p>Immigration policy cannot, however, be a complete solution to population movements within the UK or labour shortages. The Scottish Government has levers at its disposal to address these issues more effectively.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government published “The UK’s Points-Based System: Policy Statement” on 19 February.</p><p>The new system will ensure we can attract the brightest and best and deliver for the whole of the UK, whilst protecting our union.</p><p>To facilitate the migration of skilled workers to support the NHS, we will create a fast-track NHS visa for certain medical professionals with NHS job offers – reducing their visa fees and providing support to come to the UK with their families.Senior care workers who meet the criteria will be able to come to the UK through the points-based system.</p><p>The independent Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) has been clear immigration is not the solution to addressing staffing levels in the social care sector.</p><p>In delivering on its manifesto commitments for a new Australian style points-based system, the Government has considered relevant views, evidence, and analysis. We will also keep labour market data under careful scrutiny.</p><p>The Home Office will publish further detail on the points-based system in due course.</p>
