unstar this property answer text <p>There has been progress in increasing the number of vehicles on which audible and visible information is provided. Since 2016/17, the percentage of buses using an Audio-Visual information system to provide route, direction, next stop and diversion information to passengers has almost doubled, from 18% to 34% in 2020/21 across Great Britain. However, there is a large variation in usage by region.</p><p> </p><p>At present there is no legal requirement for operators to provide audible and visible information or to maintain volume levels at a particular level. However, we plan to require the provision of audible and visible information on local bus and coach services across Great Britain, and intend to introduce the Accessible Information Regulations shortly. The Regulations will incorporate requirements to ensure that audible information can be heard by passengers.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Drivers of regular bus and coach services are already legally required to complete disability awareness training.</p><p>The Department for Transport publishes annual bus statistics which include an assessment of the proportion of on-board staff that have taken disability awareness training.  The most recent release (2021/22) estimated that 99% of on-board staff working for local bus operators had taken this training. We are aware that statistics indicate a low level of non-compliance with these requirements. unstar this property answer text <p>We have required buses funded through the government’s Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme to provide audible and visible information as standard.</p><p> </p><p>We also plan to require the provision of audible and visible information on local bus and coach services across Great Britain, and intend to introduce the Accessible Information Regulations shortly.</p><p> </p><p>We have allocated £3.55m to the Real Time Information Group, who will be supporting small operators with the upfront costs of the planned Regulations.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 (PSVAR) require buses and coaches in scope of the PSVAR to incorporate a wheelchair space and boarding ramp or lift.</p><p>We require buses funded by the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) scheme to incorporate additional accessibility features, including a second wheelchair space or flexible area.</p><p>Regarding this requirement, as part of a review of the PSVAR, the Department has launched a Call for Evidence. We are asking for views on how effective the PSVAR have been in improving accessibility, and how it might evolve so that buses and coaches continue to meet the access needs of all passengers.</p><p> </p><p>Respondents will have the opportunity to provide the Department with their views on bus design, including sharing any perspectives they may have on features such as an additional flexible space. Upon completion of analysis of the Call for Evidence and review of the PSVAR, it is our intention to publish the Department's response to the evidence submitted.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Funding for free concessionary pass holders is provided to Local Authorities by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Settlement Funding Assessment which is allocated by His Majesty’s Treasury through a formula that supports a wide range of activities to ensure that each travel concession authority receives the funding that they need.</p><p> </p><p>The funding is not ringfenced, which enables local authorities to make spending decisions that more closely match local needs and circumstances.</p> more like this
