star this property answer text <p>The government is always looking for ways to improve communications with borrowers, and we welcome this contribution to the post-18 review of education and funding from the Russell Group and Martin Lewis from Money Saving Expert on the Graduate Contributions Statement. Work on the review is still ongoing. The independent panel will report before the government concludes the overall review.</p><p> </p><p>The current student loan statements are fit for purpose, providing borrowers with the relevant information about their accounts, including loans balance, repayments made and interest accrued over the previous tax year. Student loan borrowers currently receive account statements annually. We are continually working to improve the repayment system for borrowers and are currently exploring how students taking out a student loan can have better online access to much more up to date information on their repayments.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>I continue to believe that Community Energy remains an important part of the energy system, delivering energy efficiency and demand management, supporting switching and engaging the wider community on the key challenges of the energy transition and wider climate change as well as owning generation assets.</p><p> </p><p>Renewable Energy co-operatives are one of the business models that we support and was a key part of the criteria in a number of community initiatives and support mechanisms the department funded in the past. This will also be the case for the Rural Community Energy fund which will reopen at the end of this month and provide grants to community groups for feasibility studies and development of business cases for local energy projects.</p><p> </p><p>We also work closely with community networks like Community Energy England who manage the community energy hub which shares best practice, case studies and as part of that provides advice and support for the creation of community energy co-operatives.</p>

star this property answer text <p>As independent and autonomous institutions, higher education (HE) providers are responsible for decisions regarding the contracts they offer to academics. Like all employers, HE providers have a duty of care to their staff. The department expects them to take this very seriously.</p><p>I gave a speech on 7 May that focused on early career researcher contracts. I am keen that early career academics do not get lost from policy debates – particularly around key issues like mental health and wellbeing. I am looking forward to the upcoming publication of the revised Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, and I am serious about taking this forward. star this property answer text <p>Mental health is a priority for this government, which is why we continue to work closely with Universities UK (UUK) on embedding the Step Change programme within the sector. Step Change calls on higher education (HE) leaders to adopt mental health as a strategic priority and adopt a whole-institution approach to mental health, embedding it across all policies, cultures, curricula and practice.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the government actively backs the introduction of a sector-led University Mental Health Charter, launched in June 2018. This will drive up standards in promoting student and staff mental health and wellbeing. It will invite universities to meet high standards of practice, including in areas such as leadership, early intervention and data collection.</p><p> </p><p>HE institutions (HEI) have legal responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 to support students, including those with mental health conditions. It is for HEIs to determine what welfare and counselling services they need to provide to their students to offer that support.</p><p> </p><p>The information requested is not held centrally regarding student suicide. However, in June 2018, the Office for National Statistics released experimental statistics estimating suicide among higher education students in England and Wales which can be found following this link: <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/articles/estimatingsuicideamonghighereducationstudentsenglandandwalesexperimentalstatistics/2018-06-25" target="_blank">https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/articles/estimatingsuicideamonghighereducationstudentsenglandandwalesexperimentalstatistics/2018-06-25</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The government has worked with UUK, the Office for Students, and other stakeholders to develop guidance on measures to help prevent suicide and deal sensitively with issues that may arise when tragedy does occur.
