star this property answer text <p>The number of individuals who have been transferred or seconded to work in preparations for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union in other Government departments is not recorded.</p><p>Across the Department, staff are working on a range of policy areas related to EU Exit. Communications, analytical and legal staff also provide advice as required. Staff may have been redistributed within their directorates to support or undertake work which involves preparations for EU Exit. Officials may also have reprioritised their work to include EU Exit work, whilst remaining in their primary roles.</p><p>The Department is continually reviewing workforce plans, reprioritising and assessing changing needs, including identification and cessation of non-priority work where appropriate. The Civil Service as a whole is working to ensure that EU Exit implementation is carried out to a high standard, without impacting public service delivery across the whole of Government.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme aims to drive improvements in medical and surgical specialties through clinical leadership and the use of data to identify and reduce unwarranted variation in practice. By tackling variations in the way services are delivered across the National Health Service, and by sharing best practice between trusts, GIRFT identifies changes that will help improve care and patient outcomes, as well as delivering efficiencies such as the reduction of unnecessary procedures and cost savings.</p><p>The GIRFT programme has recently concluded a pilot looking at applying the GIRFT methodology in primary care. The Department, NHS England and NHS Improvement are reviewing the findings of the pilot and will agree the appropriate next steps in the context of the new GP contract and Primary Care Networks currently being established which have an associated improvement support programme.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>NHS Improvement is leading a national retention programme across the National Health Service with an initial focus on improving retention of the nursing workforce, as well as the mental health clinical workforce.</p><p>To date 110 trusts have completed the NHS Improvement Direct Support Programme. NHS Improvement is currently working with an additional 35 trusts and will be expanding the programme across the NHS and providing support to all remaining NHS trusts in England.</p><p>The latest data from the University and College Admissions Service (February 2019) shows that there has been a 4.5% increase in applicants to nursing or midwifery courses at English universities when compared to this time last year (2018).</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan, published on 7 January 2019, sets out a vital strategic framework to ensure that over the next 10 years the NHS will have the staff it needs. This will ensure that nurses are able to offer the expert compassionate care that they are committed providing. To ensure a detailed plan that everyone in the NHS can get behind my Rt. hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has asked Baroness Harding to lead an inclusive programme of work to set out a detailed workforce implementation plan to be published in due course.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p>
