star this property answer text <p>Following a machinery of government in February 2023, the Department for Business, Energy &amp; Industrial Strategy and the Department for International trade were replaced by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and the Department for Business and Trade.</p><p>As the Department for Business and Trade did not exist between September 2021 and January 2023, we are unable to provide data on payment towards the apprenticeship levy and spend of levy funds for this period.</p><p>Since the creation of the Department for Business and Trade the apprenticeship levy account has remained shared between the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and the Department for Business and Trade. Therefore, the Department for Business and Trade is unable to accurately provide the amount paid in apprenticeship levy fees between February 2023 and August 2023 and is unable to accurately provide the amount spent from the levy over the same period.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The department is supporting businesses to export successfully, while understanding and tackling the risks of goods being circumvented to Russia. We have published guidance with HMRC for exporters on circumvention with recommendations for due diligence and internal controls. Along with international partners, we also publish and maintain the “Common High Priority Items List” to help businesses understand which goods are critical to Russia’s military.</p><p> </p><p>Finally, we have announced the creation of the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation in the Department for Business and Trade, which will boost the enforcement and implementation of UK trade sanctions once it is up and running later this year. The new unit’s priorities will include enhanced industry engagement and improved sanctions guidance for industry.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We have sanctioned the export of all chemicals and biochemicals of concern to Russia.</p><p>This is in addition to our existing export controls, which already restrict the export of certain chemicals, pathogens and toxins.</p><p>Sanctions and export controls are impacting Russia’s economy and depriving its military of key components, but we are not complacent.</p><p>My department has recently announced the creation of the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation (OTSI) to strengthen enforcement and support industry compliance.</p><p>We are also working closely with Ukraine and international partners to coordinate efforts to thwart Russia’s efforts to circumvent sanctions to gain access to technology to support its invasion.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government has a robust process in place to ensure that sanctions measures are effective. There are legal obligations on all businesses in the UK and all UK citizens to comply with the sanctions regime. HMG will not hesitate to act if it finds evidence that any firms are not complying.</p><p>Officials in the Export Control Joint Unit, in collaboration with the Research Collaboration Advice Team in DSIT - which advises research institutions on national security risks linked to international collaboration - regularly engage with relevant stakeholders.</p><p>We expect UK businesses and academic institutions to undertake due diligence to ensure that the end destination of their products is not Russia.</p> more like this

We have held regular roundtables with industry exporting and importing into the UK, shipping companies, port operators and maritime representatives to hear their concerns and inform government. The Critical Import and Supply Chains Strategy is helping businesses work in partnership with the Government to build secure and reliable supply chains vital to the UK economy, national security, and the delivery of essential services.</p><p>We continue to monitor the Houthi attacks and activity in the Red Sea and are committed as a government to ensuring the Red Sea is safe for seafarers and traders to use, as shown through our commitment to Operation Prosperity Guardian.</p> more like this
