star this property answer text <p>In making decisions on whether to grant a licence to permit something otherwise prohibited by sanctions legislation &amp; regulations, the Export Control Joint Unit (ECJU), comprised of subject matter experts and officials in the Department for Business and Trade, the Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office and the Ministry of Defence, acts on behalf of the Secretary of State. ECJU is obligated to consider applications on a case-by-case basis, determining whether granting a licence would be consistent with the stated purposes of the sanctions regime, licensing grounds, and United Nations or international law obligations. When assessing applications ECJU also consults and considers views from a range of other government departments.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government has a strong track record of backing the sector and in November published our Advanced Manufacturing Plan (AMP) which aims to make the UK the best place in the world to start, scale up and invest in manufacturing.</p><p>Our plan, which builds on our extensive existing support, is underpinned by a £4.5bn commitment for strategic manufacturing sectors to 2030, a further £16 million to expand SME digital adoption through Made Smarter, provides tax relief and includes measures aimed at improving our business environment including grid connection, supply chain resilience and the UKs first Battery Strategy.</p><p>Made Smarter equips businesses with funding and tailored advise from specialists on the successful adoption of applications such as machine learning, data/systems integration and robotics to help drive efficiency, increase automation and raise productivity.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is proud of its record in proactively seeking to find and prevent more fraud in the system. We have established the dedicated Public Sector Fraud Authority (PSFA). In its first year it delivered £311 million in audited counter fraud benefits.</p><p>The PSFA produces a Fraud Landscape Report. This provides data on fraud and error detection, loss and recoveries in central government, outside of the tax and welfare system. The 2020/21 Report was published in March 2023.</p><p>Due to the recent Machinery of Government changes, the Department for Business and Trade have not yet published any fraud and error estimates.</p><p>The latest published figures available for the Department for International Trade are available in the 2022 Cross-Government Fraud Landscape Annual Report.</p><p>The latest Government figures made available in the BEIS Annual Report and Accounts (2022/2023), for all BEIS activities, indicated that estimated expected losses due to fraud and error within the Bounce Back Loan Scheme will be £1.74bn. There are not material levels of fraud and error within the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme or the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme.</p><p>Other losses include £4 million in relation to 2 suspected fraudulent payments within the Future Fund Scheme.</p>

For the period prior to the formation of DBT, the question is assumed to refer to the former Department for International Trade. The Department for International Trade made a payment to Stonewall of £2,500 + VAT in financial years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. These payments were for membership fees as part of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme. The Department withdrew from the programme in 2021.</p> more like this
