star this property answer text The Government and the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) are committed to ensure that those in financial difficulty who need help can access free of charge debt advice. While MaPS works through their next steps on their commissioning exercise, as set out in their update of 17 December 2021, they have confirmed they will be extending existing grants for a limited period of time.<p> </p><p>The Government recognises the sector’s need for planning certainty and is closely engaging with MaPS as they work through the next steps including by making sure they are considering recent representations made by various stakeholders in the sector on how best to deliver locally based debt advice provision going forward.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is working at pace with MaPS to provide further information to the bidders and the sector shortly.</p> more like this

star this property answer text In 2021 the government launched a review of the Research and Development (R&amp;D) tax reliefs. Several reforms have since been announced, including bringing pure mathematics research within scope of the reliefs by modifying the definition. The government is continuing the review, with any further reforms to be announced as usual at a fiscal event.<p> </p><p>According to the R&amp;D tax credits statistics publication, in 2020-21 the accommodation and food sector made 810 claims for either the Research and Development Expenditure Credit (RDEC) or the SME R&amp;D tax relief, at £20 million cost to the exchequer.</p> more like this

star this property answer text For 2023/24, it is estimated that there will be around 7,000 Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) claiming R&amp;D tax credits that will have an R&amp;D expenditure between 25 percent and 39 percent of their total expenditure. This is based on 2019-20 data projected forward in line with the Office for Budget Responsibilities economic forecasts, so is subject to the usual uncertainties surrounding forecast values.<p> </p><p> </p>To support those most impacted by the R&amp;D tax relief rate changes announced at Autumn Statement 2022, the additional tax relief for R&amp;D intensive SMEs announced at Spring Budget 2023 is targeted specifically at loss making R&amp;D intensive SMEs, who are most impacted by the changes. more like this

star this property answer text <p>‘Electronics, Photonics and Quantum’ was one of seven technology families defined by the Government in the Innovation Strategy (HMG 2021), which highlighted UK strengths in high potential emerging technologies.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is a global leader in photonics, which contributed £14.5 billion to the UK economy in 2020. Government is keen to see this contribution grow across many applications, including manufacturing and agriculture. Agriculture was specifically cited in the Innovation Strategy as a domain for the convergence of the technology families.</p><p> </p><p>Photonics was also included within the National Security Investment Act (NSI) to ensure its growth and adoption is secure.</p> more like this
