	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/06/2019 answer text <p>Data for the numbers of assaults and serious assaults in each prison, broken down by type of weapon and type of injury, is set out in the attached tables. The figures are presented by calendar year rather than by quarter. This is because analysis at the level of detail requested produces many results of 5 or fewer. Disclosure-proofing to reduce the risk of identification, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, requires such low numbers to be suppressed. Even at the annual level, some such values have had to be suppressed.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is taking unprecedented action to improve safety in prisons. We have recruited over 4,700 more prison officers since October 2016, and we now have the greatest number in post since early 2012. The Challenge, Support and Intervention Plan case management process for prisoners at risk of violence has been mandated for all prisons to help staff to manage violent prisoners and those identified as posing a raised risk of being violent.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing an extra £70 million to improve safety, security and decency, and equipping officers with PAVA incapacitant spray and body-worn cameras to help prevent serious harm to staff and prisoners when dealing with violent incidents. That report must then be followed up with a written report within 24 hours (or, at weekends, by the following Monday). In the case of a deceased prisoner, the prison must also report the death to the Prisons &amp; Probation Ombudsman in writing, within 24 hours. PAVA training is incorporated into Use of Force training, which is mandatory of all prison officers and as such it is not possible to isolate specific training costs.</p><p> </p><p>We are committed to the rollout of PAVA to support our hardworking prison officers to do their jobs. PAVA is just one part of our approach to improve prison safety. PAVA spray is explicitly for the protection of staff, the protection of those in our care or to facilitate the safe withdrawal of staff. This includes giving them control of their education budgets, deciding on the curriculum to be delivered and playing a role in choosing the provider(s) of their education delivery to best meet the needs of their prisoners.</p><p> </p><p>To measure planned and actual improvements in educational performance, we will assess that the prison infrastructure supports education;</p><ul><li>that prison education is fully integrated into all aspects of prison life;</li><li>that those in custody are assessed at the start and end of their sentences;</li><li>and that providers and their staff work flexibly and collaboratively to deliver high quality educational provision.</li></ul><p>We will also ensure that education is available in every prison; that prisoners all have a personal learning plan linked to their sentence plan; and that provision is suitable to address the needs of the those concerned. During that time, Ministers have approved 49 grants to mosques worth £638,906.34.</p><p>Following the Finsbury Park terror attack in June 2017, we also announced a £1m fund to protect vulnerable faith institutions. Under this scheme, we approved funding to 38 faith institutions including 19 mosques and one Muslim community centre.
