It is the role of the Care Quality Commission to monitor, inspect and regulate healthcare services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.</p><p> </p><p>Healthcare professional regulators, including the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, are responsible for assuring the fitness to practise of healthcare professionals, and can take action against professionals who do not meet the standards for professional conduct set by the regulators.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Digital technology is improving access to healthcare for rural communities:</p><p>- In April 2018, NHS Digital published a digital inclusion guide for health and social care aimed at local health and care organisations to help them to take practical steps to support digital inclusion in their communities, including those in rural areas who are more likely to be digitally excluded;</p><p> </p><p>- We are working closely with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to ensure that health and care needs are taken into account in national digital infrastructure policy, are running two test beds under Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s 5G programme focused on improving access, and the 5G programme itself will address rural connectivity; and</p><p> </p><p>- The NHS App is now connected in over 52% of general practitioner (GP) practices. It provides a universal offer regardless of postcode. It gives patients a single safe and secure means to interact with their GP, including access to their GP record, make GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions, access 111 online for urgent medical questions. The improved NHS website has over 40 million visits a month.</p>

The list is not intended to be exhaustive, rather it provides guidance on the sort of behaviour which could give rise to a safeguarding concern. It includes physical, domestic, sexual, psychological, discriminatory, financial and material abuse. Local authorities should not limit their view of what constitutes abuse and should consider the circumstances of the individual’s case.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>We have not set a definitive timescale for the duration of the maternity investigations. As we said in our response to the Joint Committee’s report ‘Draft Health Service Safety Investigations Bill: A new capability for investigation patient safety incidents’, the Department’s view is that the best approach is to allow the current maternity investigations programme to complete its rollout to all healthcare regions in England, which is now complete and will continue for a limited period so that the learning and benefit can be gained from these investigations.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The 2019-20 baseline budget for the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) maternity programme has been finalised and HSIB have been informed of the outcome.</p><p>The average cost of a HSIB maternity investigation is £19,000 per investigation. This includes the cost of clinical expertise and training for maternity investigators to lead professional investigations.</p><p>69 investigations were referred to the HSIB between 1 April and 30 September 2018. No investigations were completed in that period as the Maternity Directions requires investigations to be completed in six months and there were no referrals received in the first month of the HSIB implementing the maternity programme.</p><p>As from 1 April 2019, the HSIB maternity investigations programme is fully staffed and operational in every healthcare region in England. At the end of April 2019, 147.6 whole time equivalent staff are employed by the HSIB to conduct maternity investigations. There are no staff positions vacant and the figures exclude support from corporate services.</p>
