The UK also regularly calls on the Egyptian authorities to open up civil and political space, and media freedoms. The UK is clear that all Egyptians - including election candidates - should be able to fully benefit from their rights under the Egyptian Constitution.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Egypt held Presidential elections from 10-12 December 2023. The UK did not take part in formal election observation but encouraged free and fair elections. While a number of opposition candidates ran against President Abd El Fattah El-Sisi without issue, some claimed that they had faced obstacles to participating in the run up to the election. With 66.8 percent of the population voting, President Sisi secured 89.6 percent of the votes.</p> more like this
