star this property answer text
An increase in mumps activity was observed in England in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019 with 795 laboratory confirmed mumps infections. Cases were reported in all regions of England, predominantly in young adults aged 15 to 34 years (703/795, 88%). Almost half (352/795, 44%) of the cases in Q1 were in unvaccinated individuals. Whilst this is triple the total number of infections (247 cases) confirmed in England in Q1 of 2018, increases in mumps cases have been observed in previous years. In Q1 of 2013, a total of 980 cases were confirmed.

Further information is available to view at the following link:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/804024/hpr1819_mmr2.pdf

Although mumps can occur in fully vaccinated individuals, due to secondary vaccine failure, it is less likely to lead to complications requiring hospitalisation. While the mumps component of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine is highly effective at protecting young children, immunity can wane over time. Therefore, older teenagers and adults who received two doses of MMR in childhood can still get mumps although this is generally mild compared to those who are unvaccinated.

star this property answer text
No specific assessment has been made of the performance of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) following the transfer of vehicle registration and licensing services from the Driver Vehicle Agency to the DVLA.

The objective of centralisation was to ensure customers in Northern Ireland had access to the same services that were already available in GB. This includes providing customers in Northern Ireland with the facility to license their vehicles online or by telephone, as well as other online vehicle registration services.

This has now been achieved. Motorists in Northern Ireland also now have access to a wider range of vehicle registration and licensing services at more than 175 Post Office branches.

The centralisation also allowed other new services to be introduced, such as the opportunity for NI customers to purchase and retain personalised registration numbers and the facility for fleet operators in NI to use the DVLA’s fleet scheme.
more like this

star this property answer text
On 31 March 2014, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) employed 4,951 full time equivalent staff compared to 5332 on 31 March 2019. The increase is largely attributable to the DVLA bringing its IT services in-house in 2015. The DVLA has also increased the number of staff working in its Drivers Medical section to cater for increases in medical notifications.

Specific information on average processing times for customers in Northern Ireland is not readily available. The information could only be retrieved at disproportionate cost as it would require the interrogation of all vehicle-related transactions to identify those specific to Northern Ireland customers.

All DVLA performance measures and achievement against those targets can be found in its annual report and accounts for each financial year along with relevant explanations.
