star this property answer text <p>The department is working hard to distribute ‘Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’ to schools as quickly as possible. The distribution of the books is being managed by DK, as per their contract with the department. The majority of deliveries to schools in England have now been completed with 3,053,000 copies delivered as of 24 June 2022, including all books delivered to schools in Northern Ireland. The delivery process is on course to be completed by 11 July 2022 at the latest.</p><p>As we are nearing the final stages of the delivery process, a discussion with my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, is not needed.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The department is due to deliver over 4.6 million copies of 'Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration' to schools in England and Northern Ireland. This represents 4,513,000 copies for schools in England, and 184,541 copies for schools in Northern Ireland.</p><p>The department has given 40 books as ministerial gifts. Between 16 May and 20 June 2022, 2,411,000 copies of the book were delivered to schools. 562,000 of these were delivered ahead of the Jubilee weekend. All books have been delivered to schools in Northern Ireland. There are approximately 2,389,000 books still to be delivered to schools in England by 11 July 2022.</p><p>The Scottish and Welsh Governments requested that the department run an opt-in process, giving their schools the choice of whether to order books. The number of books required is being finalised. They will be printed over the summer and delivered to schools in September.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As the commemorative book is funded from the department’s budget, it is appropriate that it should be given to children in state funded education.</p><p> </p><p>The decision was made to set the readability at a level suitable for upper key stage 2, as it would be extremely difficult to produce a book of this type which would be suitable for early years, primary, and secondary school audiences. A book targeted at all primary aged children will allow the older children to read the book independently, while also encouraging reading by parents or guardians to the younger children.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In addition to a hardback version of ‘Queen Elizabeth – A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’ that has been given to all pupils in state-funded schools in the UK, the department has also made an audio version of the book available through the QR code on the publisher’s website, which can be found here: <a href="https://jubilee.dk.com/" target="_blank">https://jubilee.dk.com/</a>. This website also contains links to various teaching resources about the Platinum Jubilee, which can be adapted to meet the specific needs of pupils.</p><p>The department believes that schools are best placed to identify and address the special educational needs of their pupils. Schools should endeavour to make sure that all pupils are able to engage with activities to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The commemorative book ‘Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’ has been written for a reading age of upper key stage 2 but is designed to be as accessible as possible for all primary school age-children, whether reading this themselves or having it read to them by a teacher, parent or carer. The book is written in a story-book style, supported by many informative and engaging illustrations throughout.</p><p>A braille edition of the book is not available, though audio versions are available via a QR code on the book or from the publisher’s website at: <a href="https://jubilee.dk.com" target="_blank">https://jubilee.dk.com</a>.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>To mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the department has commissioned a commemorative book which will be given to all children in state funded primary education across the United Kingdom.</p><p>The book will celebrate the people and places of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. It will teach children about recent and historical events, inspirational people, landmark innovations and inventions during Her Majesty the Queen’s lifetime, and a selection of our best art, design, and culture. The book will also explore the role of the monarch and what the Platinum Jubilee represents, so that children across the country can understand and engage with the celebrations, while broadening their education.</p><p>Plans for commissioning the book were announced on 26 September 2021 at: <a href="http://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-achievements-celebrated-in-new-childrens-book-to-mark-the-queens-platinum-jubilee" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-achievements-celebrated-in-new-childrens-book-to-mark-the-queens-platinum-jubilee</a>.</p><p> </p>
