unstar this property answer text <p>The figures shown in table SFR0302 of the UK Seafarer Statistics are based on data collected via the annual Chamber of Shipping Manpower survey. During the data collection period, the Department’s statisticians liaise closely with the Chamber of Shipping to ensure the quality and completeness of the data is as high as possible, with a response rate of around 90% of eligible companies achieved in 2018.</p><p>Where seafarer age is not recorded, efforts are made to contact the companies to obtain these details. However, where companies are unable or unwilling to share this information with the Department, aggregate data will be accepted so that the total number of seafarers covered is as accurate as possible.</p><p>The Department’s statisticians will continue to work closely with the Chamber to seek opportunities to improve the quality of the data collected as part of the 2019 survey, including exploring whether robust estimates of missing data can be made.</p> more like this

Figures for 2000/01 – 2002/03 are not provided as these are not directly comparable with later statistics. unstar this property answer text <p>Prior to 2015, the training of ratings did not contribute to the minimum training obligation placed on tonnage tax companies. As a result no ratings are recorded as having been trained on tonnage tax qualifying vessels. The table below shows the numbers since the minimum training obligation was introduced. For ratings these include SMarT funding, the training link in UK Tonnage Tax and apprenticeships. The Ratings Taskforce, which comprised representatives from industry and the unions, was reconvened to look at promotion of ratings training and employment opportunities. The Taskforce has now been merged with the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) Futures Group which will continue this work.</p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The decision for P&amp;O to reflag its vessels was a commercial matter as are contracts of employment. However in regard the legislative position;</p><ul><li>Pension rights remain in place.</li><li>Subject to EU social security coordinating regulations, usually an employee would pay social security contributions to the country they are working in.</li><li>Unless the seafarer is in receipt of Seafarer Earning Deductions or for other reasons is not considered a resident of the UK then income tax will also continue to be paid to the UK on earnings from their employment as a seafarer.</li></ul><p>Therefore unless there has been a change in the employment contract it is not expected that the take home pay will differ.</p><p> </p> more like this
