star this property answer text <p>The Romford constituency falls within the remit of the London Borough of Havering. The Government made Prevent a statutory duty in July 2015. The Duty requires all local authorities, including Havering, to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.</p><p>A Home Office peer review of Havering’s delivery of the Prevent duty in January 2019 found that Havering had a strong approach to delivering the Prevent programme, which aims to prevent vulnerable individuals being drawn into terrorism. The Borough has a wide training and engagement programme for schools, colleges, childcare providers and children’s services. Those deemed most at risk of radicalisation are supported through Havering’s Channel Panel, with holistic needs addressed through the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Home Secretary has met with representatives of social media companies both bilaterally at meetings in Silicon Valley and at multi lateral fora, such as the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism summit, where he has continued to press companies to do more to respond to the threat of terrorism online.</p><p>The Security Minister has also met with industry representatives at the G7 Interior Ministers meeting in Toronto in 2018.</p><p>This Government has been clear there should be no safe spaces online for terrorists and extremists to operate. The UK has been at the forefront of the online battle against the threat of terrorist and extremist content. My officials work closely with industry to encourage them to do more to proactively respond, and to develop innovative solutions to tackle this problem.</p><p>But there is still more to do. A White Paper will be published shortly, setting out measures to tackle online harms, including terrorist content.</p> more like this

Of these, approximately 20 per cent have been killed in the conflict and around 40 per cent have returned to the UK. They have all been investigated and the majority have been assessed to pose no, or a low security risk. The requirements are set out in the Guidance on the operation of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) that explains how the act is administered and enforced <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/guidance-on-the-operation-of-the-animals-scientific-procedures-act-1986" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/guidance-on-the-operation-of-the-animals-scientific-procedures-act-1986</a></p><p>All establishments that use animals in science must fully comply with the Code of Practice for the housing and care of animals bred, supplied or used for scientific purposes. The Code provides advice about the way in which those responsible under ASPA may comply with those requirements. <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/animal-research-technical-advice#code-of-practice-for-the-care-and-accommodation-of-animals" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/animal-research-technical-advice#code-of-practice-for-the-care-and-accommodation-of-animals</a></p><p>All licensed establishments are inspected by the Home Office Animals in Science Regulation Unit to provide assurance of compliance with the requirements of ASPA. All Home Office inspectors are fully registered medical practitioners in the UK or Members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Home Office runs the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme (ARIS), in which criminal property recovered under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 is divided between the Home Office and operational partners, based on their relative contribution to recovering these funds. These funds are calculated and paid quarterly in arrears to agencies, as soon as possible after the end of each quarter.</p><p>The safer communities fund is not operated by the Home Office but by local police forces. There is an expectation that payments made under ARIS will be used to further drive up performance on asset recovery and, where appropriate, to fund local crime fighting priorities for the benefit of the community.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Work to protect universities as potential targets of attack forms part of the Government’s crowded places strategy, of which universities form part of the higher education sector. As such, relevant high-quality protective security advice and guidance is made available to universities and other higher education institutions through the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) and via police Counter Terrorism Security Advisors, who operate in every region of the UK.</p><p>In addition, the Colleges and Higher Education Security Standard (CHESS) project, based at the University of Northampton, is working to identify and share effective practice from the further and higher education sectors to improve security, business continuity and resilience across the sector. This Home Office funded project, supported by the Department for Education and the Office for Students, is due to be completed shortly and will complement NaCTSO advice.</p> more like this
