	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/02/2021 answer text <p>The Gambling Commission monitors the expenses of society lotteries through the regular reporting required of operators by their licences.</p><p>Gambling Commission will discuss any concerns with operators as they arise. Society lottery operators are able to make changes to address concerns raised by the Commission. Society lotteries are a vital source of funds for these organisations, raising around £400 million a year.</p><p>In 2020, we legislated to raise the annual sales limit for large society lotteries from £10 million to £50 million. Each organisation with a society lottery licence is therefore able to sell up to £50 million of tickets per year. The consultation seeks to achieve a balance between enabling growth in the society lottery sector, while also protecting the unique position of the UK-wide National Lottery, which has raised over £39 billion for good causes since it started in 1994.</p><p> </p><p>In terms of supporting the National Lottery, work has begun with the Gambling Commission on preparations for the next licence competition, and this year is an important one for the National Lottery in marking its 25th Anniversary. Secondary legislation to implement the reforms to society lotteries announced in July 2019 was laid in January 2020 and is scheduled to be debated on 9 March in the House of Lords, and 10 March in the House of Commons.
