	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/12/2018 answer text <p>The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 creates a duty on certain named public authorities to refer people to local authorities who may be at risk of becoming homeless.</p><p>Consideration has been given to making the Home Office a named public authority for these purposes in circumstances where a person is leaving asylum accommodation following a grant of refugee status. However, it was considered unnecessary to do this because asylum accommodation providers are already under a contractual duty, which predated the 2017 Act, to refer these cases to the appropriate local authority.</p><p>Asylum seekers who are granted refugee status become eligible to receive assistance with housing from their local authority in the same way as British Citizens or other permanent residents of the UK and are treated as a priority need if they have children or are considered vulnerable.</p> answering member printed Baroness Williams of Trafford question first answered 17/12/2018 17:39:16 answering member 4311 label Biography information for Baroness Williams of Trafford

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/12/2018 answer text <p>Accommodation providers are required to provide safe, habitable, fit for purpose and correctly equipped accommodation that complies with the Decent Homes Standard in addition to standards outlined in relevant national or lo-cal housing legislation.</p><p>The contract requires providers to inspect each property every month and UKVI inspects a significant proportion of properties each year to ensure standards are being met. The Government has been determined to ensure that everything was being done to support police efforts to tackle this threat. That is why we brought the police, industry, local government, civil society groups and others together to see what more could be done to prevent offending and keep the public safe.</p><p>This work sits alongside the Government’s consultation on police pursuits, which seeks to give police greater confidence to pursue suspects and will help tackle these crimes. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/12/2018 answer text <p>The UK has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it and this Government is committed to delivering a fair and humane asylum system.</p><p>Our current policy is consistent with EU law and asylum seekers are permitted to work, in jobs on the Shortage Occupation List, if they have been waiting for a decision on their claim for 12 months or more and the delay is through no fault of their own. This approach aims to maintain the distinction between those who need protection and those who want to come to the UK to work, who can apply for a work visa under the Immigration Rules. It is essential that we avoid creating further incentives for migrants to come here illegally, risking their lives in the process, instead of claiming asylum in the first safe country they reach.</p><p>The Government is considering recent calls to change the current policy and reviewing the evidence available. We are ending free movement and designing a system that will work in the national interest. <br>We have been clear that the UK will always be open to those who bring valuable skills, experience and investment to the UK and our economy. The last meeting was on 3 December 2018. These meetings include discussions on strengthening their outreach to minority groups, such as Christians, that might otherwise be reluctant to register for fear of stigma/discrimination and unaware of the safe space and options available to them.</p><p>In all the countries from which we resettle under the Vulnerable Persons and Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Schemes, UNHCR continues to undertake activities which aim to encourage religious and other minorities to register. <br>These include mobile registration teams, outreach teams, and Help Desks for areas where different minority groups are concentrated to facilitate registration and access to services.
