star this property answer text <p>The Government Equalities Office is working to address the persistent gendered barriers that women and men face at every stage of their lives. As part of our new strategy we will set out what the Government is doing to ensure that people have financial independence and resilience, as well as real choice and influence over the economic decisions in their lives. This includes the choices that women make around whether to have children, and how to balance work and care.</p><p> </p><p>The Government provides a range of support for new mothers, depending on their needs and the needs of their families. These include breastfeeding, perinatal mental health, and health visitor support.</p><p> </p><p>Enabling women and men to spend quality time with their child in the first year is important to support families to bond. The right to request flexible working, and the introduction of Shared Parental Leave helps parents to balance work and care between them, in a way that works for their families.</p><p> </p><p>If mothers want to return to work, childcare support is available, we have doubled the childcare entitlement for working parents of 3 and 4 year olds, from 15 to 30 hours a week as well as introducing Tax-Free Childcare. This means that this year we will be spending around £6bn on childcare support, this is more than any previous government.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government Equalities Office liaised closely with the Department of Health and Social in developing the commitments set out the LGBT Action Plan. These include the appointment of a National Adviser, who will focus on reducing the health inequalities that LGBT people receive when accessing the NHS.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We are aware demand for gender identity services is growing at a significant rate.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>NHS England increased investment in these services in 2016/17, from £26million to £32million, and this figure of £32million has been the overall financial investment in these services each subsequent financial year in-cluding the current year of 2018/19.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Between July and October 2017 NHS England and NHS Scotland held separate but related public consultations on proposals for new service specifications that, if adopted, describe how specialised gender identity services for adults will be commissioned and delivered in the future.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Final versions of the service specifications will be used to inform a process of competitive procurement that will determine which organisations are best placed to provide specialist gender identity services. The process of procurement will be managed by NHS England, with the involvement of NHS Scotland.</p>

The relevant Priority Area (“Citizenship and Democracy”) of the EHRC’s Strategic Plan 2016-19 accordingly commits it to <em>“focus on delivering improvements in relation to political representation and civic participation; anti-extremism and anti-terrorism legislation and surveillance powers; and freedom of expression and freedom to associate in a trade union.”</em></p><p>The Government notes these commitments, but has not made an assessment of their merits in tackling the barriers facing women in politics and public life, or of whether they support aspects of the Equality Act 2010 such as Section 106. It is for the EHRC, as an independent public authority, to progress the commitments as it sees fit.</p> more like this
