star this property answer text <p>The Government provides grants worth £15.6m per year to support rail and water freight services which deliver environmental and economic benefits over road transport, but whose operating costs are higher. This level is net of a significant efficiency saving implemented since 2015.</p><p> </p><p>Rail flows of intermodal freight continue to be healthy and the grants deliver high value for money. A research project is underway to inform decisions about future funding and operation of the grants and will consider stakeholder feedback.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department works with Highways England and Kent County Council to ensure roads in East Kent can support international freight traffic.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>This includes Highways England funding a movable barrier which enables Operation Brock to hold heavy goods vehicles in the event of serious disruption at the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel, and allows the M20 to remain open for other traffic in both directions. For the longer term, Highways England is currently developing options for two schemes on the A2/M2 route to inform future road investment decisions.</p><p> </p> more like this

Following the close of the second SAF mandate consultation in June 2023, the department has made significant progress in updating the evidence base and finalising the design of the Mandate. star this property answer text <p>The Department for Transport is providing £6.2 billion to local highway authorities in England, outside London, from 2015 to 2021 to enable repairs to be made to all highway infrastructure assets maintainable at public expense. The funding includes a £296 million Pothole Action Fund. Highways England are also spending £400 million per annum for renewal of the road surfaces for which they are responsible.</p> more like this
