The freedom to practise, change or share one’s faith or belief without discrimination or violent opposition is a fundamental human right that all people should enjoy. We believe that societies which aim to guarantee freedom of religion or belief are more stable, prosperous and more resilient against violent extremism. We look to the Chinese authorities to provide comprehensive details of the circumstances surrounding his death. We have not made representations to the Chinese authorities on this specific case.</p><p>We are concerned by reports that a number of human rights defenders have died whilst in prison and allegations that they have been denied access to medical treatment. The blasphemy laws are used against people of all faiths although minority communities are disproportionately affected. We issued an item IV statement at the 37th UN Human Rights Council on 14 March which reiterated our concerns about the situation in China. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/03/2018 answer text <p>​We remain concerned about restrictions on freedom of religion and belief in Pakistan, particularly the misuse of the blasphemy laws. Blasphemy laws are used against people of all faiths, although minority communities are disproportionately affected. Our concerns are reflected in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Annual Human Rights Report.</p><p>We regularly make clear our concerns about freedom of religion and belief and the protection of minority communities with the government of Pakistan. We do so at a senior level. During my visit to Pakistan last year, I raised our concerns about the treatment of religious minorities, including discrimination and violence against them, with the Federal Secretary of Pakistan's Ministry of Human Rights. The Prime Minister discussed this issue with President Xi and Premier Li during her visit to China from 31 January to 2 February 2018.</p><p>The former First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, the Rt Hon. We called on the Chinese authorities to release evidence to reassure the international community of his current status and wellbeing.</p><p>We urge China to ensure that the restrictions on the Panchen Lama's freedom of movement and communication are lifted, so that he may select the career, education or religious life of his choosing.
