Every Israeli and Palestinian has the right to live in peace and security. We strongly condemn the recent attempted assassination of Prime Minister Hamdallah on 13 March, for which there is no justification. The UK continues to support the return of the legitimate Palestinian Authority to Gaza. Officials in the Embassy in Mexico City have regular contact with HRDs and Civil Society Organisations that support them. We work with international partners to monitor cases, observe trials and raise issues with the government. We are working closely with the government of Mexico to support a human rights agenda, including tackling corruption and strengthening the legal system, which some reports suggest are contributing factors to the challenges that HRDs face. We also thank the departing representative, Mr Todd Howland, for his leadership of the UN Office for Human Rights in Colombia since 2012. The office has played a vital role in supporting those working to improve human rights in Colombia.
