At Autumn Budget 2017, the government delivered more support on business rates including businesses’ top priorities to bring forward the switch to CPI indexation, revalue properties more frequently and to address the staircase tax. As a next step, the government is also reviewing the wider taxation of the digital economy. Our priority is to inquire about these specific allegations with Mr Johal in private. We take all allegations of torture of mistreatment extremely seriously and we will press for action appropriate to the situation, with the consent of the individual, avoiding any action that may put the individual concerned at risk. The Foreign Secretary raised the case with the Indian Minister of External Affairs on 23 November and Consular officials continue to reiterate our request for a private meeting with Mr Johal with the Indian Government. This will bring together money, expertise, and planning and compulsory purchase powers, Homes England will have a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.</p><p>Homes England will have access to a number of planning powers. The Budget statement signalled a new role for an expanded, more assertive Homes England. Homes England will use its money, expertise and available powers, where necessary, to intervene in local markets to get more homes built.
