The wider issue around the immigration status difficulties affecting some of the Windrush generation has come to the fore, and the attention of Ministers, in recent months. On the 16 April we set up a Taskforce to help those affected get documents they need and on 30 May, the Windrush Scheme came into force. The Group was established to examine the rules and administrative arrangements in place across government to regulate migrant access to benefits and public services. Measures to strengthen controls in this area were subsequently introduced in the Immigration Act 2014 and in changes to secondary legislation.</p><p>Policy proposals to introduce these measures were subject to public consultation during the course of 2013, for which policy development documents, including impact assessments, were published. These are routinely disposed of once statistical and biographic data has been recorded.</p><p>Landing cards that were previously scanned onto microfiche, are now scanned onto PDF format and DVD. The statistical and biographic data is then entered onto the Home Office’s Case Information Database.
