	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2017 answer text <p>The G markings placed against EU citizens on the electoral register denotes their eligibility to vote at local and Assembly elections. The K marking denotes an EU citizen who has confirmed that they intend to vote in Northern Ireland, rather than their home state, at a specific European Parliamentary election. The K designation only lasts for one year and consequently there are currently no individuals with a K marking on the Northern Ireland register.</p><p> </p><p>UK, Irish and Commonwealth citizens are eligible to register to vote in UK General Parliamentary Elections. These data are published in the ‘Police workforce, England and Wales’ statistical bulletins. The Home Office does not collect information on the number of posts available.</p><p>Detailed data on the number of officers in post, broken down by rank, gender and ethnicity are collected and published on an annual basis only. Police.uk now gives access to diversity data for officers and police staff, and the profile of BME and female officers by police rank, in comparison to the local force area population. We are in regular discussion with the College of Policing, who are leading work with chief constables and others to improve senior police recruitment.</p><p>The Government’s direct entry schemes at Inspector and Superintendent ranks help to attract the most talented people into policing, bringing in fresh experience, diversity and perspectives. Of the 40 inspectors and superintendents who have started the scheme so far 43% have been women and 13% were from an ethnic minority background. However, the Royal Navy Fishery Protection Squadron comprises of 3 offshore patrol vessels of which one is currently tasked to meet the contractual commitment to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for the purposes of fisheries enforcement in England.</p><p> </p><p>The number of RN Offshore Patrol Vessels reflects the adoption of a risk based, intelligence led operational model that enables targeted enforcement interventions in the right place at the right time. The requirement for all vessels over 12 metres in length to be fitted with the satellite tracking devices (Vessel Monitoring System) gives a real time picture of where fishing activity is happening enabling the efficient employment of patrol vessels. This information is monitored at the MMO control room in Newcastle.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, when the RN Offshore Patrol Vessels are at sea but conducting other tasks they are still able to provide a presence which has a deterrent effect. This is supplemented by joint working with other agencies such as Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authorities (IFCAs), UK Border Force (UKBF) and the Police to ensure effective and timely intervention where illegal activity is suspected. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/07/2017 answer text <p>In April 2016 (the nearest available data point to the 2016 EU Referendum) there were 10,500 Service personnel stationed overseas and in April 2017 (the closest data point to the 2017 General Election) there were 9,200. However, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) does not hold information to indicate the numbers or percentage of these personnel who were registered to vote or who actually voted. With regard to postal votes, the MOD does not hold data which would give an accurate analysis of the number of ballot papers submitted by Service personnel, as the voter packs processed by the Department also include the dependents of Service personnel, MOD civilian personnel based abroad and the dependents of civilian personnel. In addition, some personnel may have chosen alternative methods of returning their ballot papers.</p><p>Registration is a personal matter and personnel are free to decide whether, where and how they register to vote. The MOD works closely with the Electoral Commission to promote awareness among its people of the importance of registering to vote and of the options for doing so. Voter registration campaigns are run yearly within the MOD and the Department has seen a steady rise in the number of Armed Forces personnel who have declared they have registered. The latest version of the Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey (AFCAS, 2017) indicates that 96 per cent of Officers and 81 per cent of Other Ranks who completed the AFCAS were registered to vote. Table B22.1 of the AFCAS provides figures on voter registration by Service and by year from 2013.
