star this property answer text <p>(A) How many people receiving HB only are not receiving the £650 Cost Of Living payment</p><p> </p><p>Approximately 100 thousand working-age HB claimants were not in receipt of a qualifying benefit or Tax Credit and so would not receive a cost of living payment of £650 paid in two lump sums of £326 and £324.</p><p> </p><p>There are a further 370 thousand pensioner HB claimants who were also not in receipt of any qualifying benefit but will receive the £300 Cost of Living payment paid through an increase to the Winter Fuel Payment.</p><p> </p><p>(B) What assessment has been made of the sufficiency of the Household Support Fund to reach all those requiring additional support.</p><p> </p><p>£842m has already been allocated to Local Authorities in England through the Household Support Fund to support those in need for the period October 2021- September 2022. Almost 9 million awards were given to those in need between October 2021 and March 2022 alone. A further £421m is being provided to extend the Household Support Fund from October 2022 to March 2023, taking the total funding for this support to over £1.2bn.</p><p> </p><p>Local Authorities have the ties and local knowledge to best determine how this support should be provided to their local communities, and they have the discretion to design their own local schemes to best meet local need, within the parameters of the grant determination and guidance for the fund.</p><p> </p><p>The Household Support Fund is just one part of a wider package of government support for the cost of living now totalling over £37bn this year.</p><p> </p><p />

star this property answer text <p>(a) On 11 January 2018, at the Secretary of State’s request, all single use plastic water cups were removed from Defra. Re-usable glasses are now provided instead. star this property answer text <p>(a) Staffing levels in the MP Account Management team have increased by 20% over the last 6 months and recruitment is continuing, with additional staff joining over the coming weeks.</p><p> </p><p>(b) A recovery plan is in place which will lead to incremental improvements in service standards over the coming 5 months with a return to 20 day service standard by March 2023.</p><p> </p><p>(c) The Home Office had been prioritising Ukraine Visa Schemes applications in response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Staff from other government departments, including DWP and HMRC, have been surged into the department to help with Ukraine work and enable normal visa routes to return to normal service levels in due course.</p><p>To help reduce the number of outstanding claims for protection we are investing in a programme of transformation and business improvement initiatives that will speed up and simplify our processes, reduce the time people spend in the asylum system and decrease the number of people who are awaiting an interview or decision.</p><p> </p><p>We have extensive ongoing recruitment plans in place and are actively increasing the number of asylum decision makers. Additionally we have career progression options that will aid the retention of staff.</p>

star this property answer text <p>12,000 more girls took STEM A levels in 2016 compared to 2010, and the Government is committed to doing more to encourage girls to study STEM subjects.</p><p>Improving the quality of teaching is vital to encourage pupils of both genders to study STEM subjects. We are investing up to £67m over the term of this Parliament to recruit and train more mathematics and physics teachers, and offering bursaries and scholarships to attract top graduates into mathematics and science teaching. We are also providing support to schools to raise the quality of mathematics and science teaching through programmes such as the network of Maths Hubs and Science Learning Partnerships, and the Network of Teaching Excellence in Computer Science. Two of these programmes, the Stimulating Physics Network and the Further Maths Support Programme, have a particular focusing on engaging more girls in mathematics and physics.</p><p>The Government also supports STEM Ambassadors, a nationwide network of over 30,000 volunteers from a wide range of STEM employers and businesses. STEM Ambassadors engage with pupils to provide stimulating and inspirational activities to increase their interest in STEM subjects and to raise awareness of the range of careers that STEM qualifications offer.</p>

star this property answer text <p><br>The Government has been clear throughout the current crisis that the Rohingya refugees who have fled into Bangladesh must be able to return to their homes in Burma safely, voluntarily and in dignity. The UK proposed and secured a UN Security Council Presidential Statement on 6 November which called for these conditions to be met and urged the Governments of Burma and Bangladesh to invite the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to participate fully in the implementation of anyreturns process.</p><p>I made clear in my 20 November meeting with the Chief of Staff to State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi that the UK expects that the Burmese authorities to ensure the safety and security of all Rohingya refugees who have fled to Bangladesh on their return to Burma. I also discussed the agreement with Bangladesh Minister of State Shahriar Alam on 30 November, setting out that any returns should be voluntary, safe, and in dignity.</p><p>The agreement signed on 23 November between the Governments of Burma and Bangladesh includes a commitment from the Government of Burma to allow refugees who fled to Bangladesh since October 2016 to return to their original places of residence in Burma or a safe and secure place of their choice. The UK will work with international partners to ensure any returns take place in line with international norms and under international monitoring.</p>
