star this property answer text <p>We will establish a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) to operate alongside the main Prison Education Framework contract which will allow governors to commission specialist providers to complement the main educational provision.</p><p> </p><p>From this autumn, governors will be able to commission careers advice through the DPS, and we believe this will allow governors to shape a coherent service, reflecting the particular needs of their establishment.</p><p> </p><p>We carry out financial and commercial due diligence on potential suppliers as part of the procurement process for any new contracts that will be awarded for careers advice. This is part of the standard approach to due diligence as part of government procurement.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>This is an issue that the Government takes extremely seriously. The Attorney General is leading a wide-ranging review of disclosure procedures that aims to report in the summer.</p><p> </p><p>On 26 January the Crown Prosecution Service and National Police Chiefs’ Council published their joint National Disclosure Improvement Plan. The police and Crown Prosecution Service have reviewed all live rape and serious sexual offence cases, to provide assurance that disclosure is being handled appropriately.</p><p> </p><p>My Department is providing £12.5m in funding for services for victims and survivors of sexual violence. This includes £7.2m of funding for rape support services. Where proceedings are discontinued or no evidence offered, the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime requires the CPS to explain to complainants why this has happened. The CPS must also inform complainants of how they can seek a review under the Victims’ Right to Review Scheme.</p><p> </p> more like this

If mental health needs are identified, prisoners are referred for treatment or follow up assessment.</p><p>Safety and security are crucial to supporting better mental health in prisons. We committed to an increase of 2,500 prison officers by the end of 2018, and have recruited 1,255 to date, putting us on track.</p><p>Additional staff will enable us to provide dedicated officers for offenders who will be better placed to recognise and react to changes in behaviour or mental well-being.</p><p>All staff in prisons will receive revised mental health awareness training and, so far, 11,000 have started this training.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Using court processes to further abuse is completely unacceptable. Family courts have the power to act if they see evidence of this.</p><p>The court can strike out any action it views as an abuse of process or issue an order restricting the litigant’s ability to continue with further applications or claims.</p><p>New family court rules were introduced in November to make sure vulnerable court users get the support they need in the courtroom.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Most of our prison estate is uncrowded. However we recognise crowding is an issue and in 2016-17 the average percentage of prisoners in crowded accommodation was 24.5%.</p><p>Our reforms will see us close down and redevelop ageing prisons and deliver high-quality, modern establishments fit for today's demands. Our new prison estate will have up to 10,000 modern prison places that create the physical conditions for Governors to achieve better educational, training and rehabilitation outcomes.</p><p>Reducing overcrowding is a central aim of the estate modernisation and the new prisons will be designed with this in firmly in mind.</p> more like this
