I received a positive response from the parties. The introduction of increased transparency of donations to Northern Ireland parties was also a Conservative Manifesto commitment at the recent Parliamentary election. All 14 local authorities are in England. Our existing policy, based on the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 drawn up by the last Labour Government, is aimed at ensuring that asylum seekers and refugees are dispersed across the country so that no individual local authority bears a disproportionate share of the burden.
