star this property answer text <p>The United Kingdom's membership of the Green Card system predates our membership of the European Union and is not at risk from withdrawal. Maintaining our current vehicular access to the EU without Green Card checks after we leave is one of a number of issues that will need to be addressed through negotiations. The Government made clear in its White Paper on EU withdrawal that our focus in negotiations will be on ensuring new barriers do not arise from our exit.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government has not undertaken a formal assessment. While the Government acknowledges that any changes to arrangements for EU workers will be a factor in the availability of skilled staff for road haulage, it is not the only factor. As noted in the Government’s response to the Transport Committee’s report on skills and workforce planning in the road haulage sector, there are encouraging signs. For example there were about 10,000 more HGV driving test passes in 2015/16 compared to two years before, in response to the higher demand for HGV drivers and the shortages. In addition the industry has developed a new Trailblazer Apprenticeship standard for HGV drivers to be funded through the Apprenticeship Levy.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Departments for Transport, Work and Pensions and Education are working with stakeholders to address this issue. This includes the development of a new Trailblazer Apprenticeship standard for HGV drivers funded through the Apprenticeship Levy, help for jobseekers to enter the logistics sector and work to address the gender imbalance in the industry.</p><p> </p><p>As part of efforts to improve the image of the profession the Department for Transport has also commissioned a survey of roadside facilities and is working with Highways England, local authorities and operators to ensure more and better quality facilities for drivers.</p><p> </p><p>The Department and its agencies have also worked to minimise delays in obtaining an HGV test appointments and licence renewals.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government’s statutory Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy, published in April 2017, set out that £1.2 billion of funding would be available to be invested in measures to increase cycling and walking in England over the period to 2021. The estimated contributions from local authorities and local enterprise partnerships of funding allocated from central government funds during this period are detailed in the table below. No estimate has been made of the total contribution of locally generated funds from local authorities.</p><p> </p><p>Since publication of the Strategy, additional funding streams have been made available to local authorities including the £1.7 billion Transforming Cities Fund, £220 million through the Clean Air Fund and £5 billion through the Housing Infrastructure Fund. star this property answer text <p>The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in the Budget 2018 that a further £420 million was being made available to local highway authorities in England, outside London, to maintain their local road network, including the repair of potholes. The Department will shortly publish details of the individual funding allocations we are making available.</p><p> </p><p>This funding is in addition to just over £6 billion the Department is allocating to highway authorities for local highway maintenance from 2015 to 2021.</p> more like this
