The Department has therefore never owned the equipment and does not have access to the unit cost.

Watchkeeper is a system delivering an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capability and comprising a number of elements including air vehicles, ground control stations, data terminals, ground equipment and sensors, as well as infrastructure and training facilities. Delivery of the complete Watchkeeper system is enabled by the Demonstration, Manufacture and In-Service Support contract with the prime contractor, Thales UK. One of the risks considered is that of mid air collision with non-cooperating aircraft. This includes in uncontrolled airspace away from airfields, airports and the airways system (Class G airspace). Following this assessment, the Duty Holder is required to put in place appropriate controls and mitigating measures to ensure that any potential risk is both tolerable and as low as reasonably practicable.
more like this

star this property answer text
The requirements of Regulatory Article (RA) 1205 para 1b are fully met as part of the Operating duty holder's Tolerable and ALARP safety statement consideration of mid-air collision risk.

The Typhoon Safety Case explicitly states what is Reasonably Practicable and Tolerable in terms of fitment of Collision Warning Systems and the other systems detailed in RA1205 for this platform. The RA states that the 'Collision Warning System' term is intentionally used to allow flexibility in identifying the optimal solution for platforms, including those currently under development.
more like this
