star this property answer text <p>We have worked with Energy UK, Ofgem, suppliers and other key industry partners to develop and implement proposals which will enable domestic customers to switch supplier 17 days, half the time it currently takes. The industry code changes to enable to this will come in to force on 6 November and Energy UK members have all committed to offering it by the end of the year. These code changes will also enable more streamlined switching of non-domestic customers.</p><p>The Department is also working with Ofgem to support their proposals for a longer term move to next day switching. A key element of this is the roll out of smart meters.</p> more like this

This includes a 'Business Finance and Support Finder' that can provide a customised source of government backed support and finance for business. In addition to on-line support, the Business Support Helpline (0300 456 3565) is available to provide a quick response on queries about starting a business, or a personalised and in-depth advice service for more complex needs. For those looking for start-up finance and advice there are Start-Up Loans: 10 loans worth a total of £47,500 have been drawn down in Windsor to date.</p><p> </p><p>Finally, the New Enterprise Allowance helps people claiming certain out of work benefits to start up their own business. As of June 2014, 10,040 disabled people (from a total of 53,350) had started a new business with the help of the NEA.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>Online TV channels licensed by Ofcom must comply with robust rules in the Ofcom Broadcasting Code on harmful or offensive content. Video-on-demand services within UK jurisdiction are subject to higher level rules which focus on harmful material, for example prohibiting incitement to hatred. More widely, as part of the work on the Digital Charter, the government is considering a range of options to counter internet harms. This includes an Internet Safety Strategy, published on 11 October, which considers the responsibilities of companies to their users, the use of technical solutions to prevent online harms and government’s role in supporting users.</p> more like this

Friend the Secretary of State met Andy Samuel, Chief Executive designate of the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), on 15 January and asked him to accelerate work with industry to identify key risks to oil and gas production in the UK Continental Shelf and identify what further measures might be taken by government and industry to mitigate them. This is in the light of the recent falls in global oil prices and is complementary to the strategic work the OGA is being set up to lead. I met Dr Samuel on 13 January and asked him to present his findings by the end of February. The OGA is scheduled to become operational as an Executive Agency of DECC from 1 April 2015.</p><p> </p> more like this

Friend the Secretary of State has asked Andy Samuel, Chief Executive designate of the Oil and Gas Authority, to accelerate work with industry to identify key risks to oil and gas production in the UK Continental Shelf and identify what further measures might be taken by government and industry to mitigate them, including on infrastructure.</p><p>Dr Samuel will also be attending the Aberdeen City Oil and Gas Summit on 2 February and participating in the jobs taskforce set up by the Scottish Government.</p><p>We are speedily implementing the Wood Review recommendations which aim to ensure maximum economic recovery of the UK’s oil and gas resources.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In December 2014, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills published in partnership with Oil and Gas UK and OPITO (the Oil and Gas Skills body), “Fuelling the next generation: A study of the UK upstream oil and gas workforce”. This report gives an assessment of the skills base of the oil and gas industry, though the evidence was gathered before the full extent of the current fall in oil prices became apparent.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>I am aware that some companies have since declared redundancies. We will continue to work closely with industry through Pilot, the Oil and Gas Industry Council and with the newly formed Scottish Energy Jobs Taskforce to assess the impact of the present low oil price on the preservation and development of the oil and gas industry skills base.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
