star this property answer text <p>The Defence Assistance Fund (DAF) is an internal Ministry of Defence resource used to help to develop and maintain bilateral defence relationships in support of wider UK Government objectives, in line with the International Defence Engagement Strategy published in February 2013. In the current financial year (FY) 2014-15 the DAF totalled £16.558 million. In the preceding three years the totals were as follows: FY2013-14 - £15.635 million; FY2012-13 £12.327million; FY2011-12 - £12.027million</p><p>The Defence Culture and Language Centre (DCLC) is funded by the Defence Academy, an element of Joint Forces Command. No direct funding is received from the DAF, but the DAF is used on occasion to fund attendance at DCLC of international students who require English Language Training prior to joining further military training and education in the UK or before returning to their home country to train others.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In financial year (FY) 14-15 the net additional cost to the public purse of training members of the Armed Forces to support the NHS is estimated to be £188,000, which relates to the training for military personnel to cover three periods of actual or proposed industrial action by ambulance drivers in October, November and January. The Ministry of Defence will be reimbursed for these net additional costs by the Department of Health.</p><p>We have checked our records which indicate that there was no additional cost to the public purse of training members of the Armed Forces to provide support to the NHS in FYs 2012-13 and 2013-14. There was one instance of assistance in 2014 but no training costs were incurred.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In the last 12 months there have been no unauthorised incursions by any foreign military aircraft into sovereign air space around the UK, which projects 12 miles off shore or to mutually agreed mid-points between adjacent nations over narrow straits such as the Straits of Dover. In terms of recent Russian military aircraft activity which has attracted media attention, these aircraft have remained in international airspace at all times. The UK civil air traffic region and the NATO Air Policing Area, for which the UK have responsibility for monitoring, include large areas of international air space through which foreign military traffic may legally transit.</p> more like this
