	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/02/2019 answer text <p>Tackling tax evasion is a priority for DFID as part of our Transparency Agenda, Addis Tax Initiative commitments and the UK Anti-Corruption Strategy.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Since 2013 DFID has supported the Global Forum for the Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes through its International Tax Transparency Programme. The Global Forum helps countries tackle tax evasion by strengthening global tax transparency and international cooperation. The Global Forum now has over 150 members and DFID supports its Africa Initiative to strengthen transparency and the exchange of information across Africa.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>HMRC and DFID continues to work alongside the Global Forum with other jurisdictions such as Egypt, Ghana and Nigeria; alongside the African Tax Administration Forum in Uganda and independently in Montserrat to support the implementation of the Automatic Exchange of Information.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>DFID’s announcement on the 19 February of a new £47m package of support for Tax for Development will further boost efforts to help countries in Africa and elsewhere to tackle this important issue.</p><p> </p> answering member constituency West Worcestershire answering member printed Harriett Baldwin question first answered 26/02/2019 17:07:41 answering member 4107 label Biography information for Dame Harriett Baldwin

Although many factors impact on revenue growth, so forecasts are not available, past DFID tax programmes have proved to be great value for money. DFID spent a total of £212 million on bilateral and multilateral support to elections during the period 2010/11 to 2014/15 which represents 0.5% of DFID total spend. This increases the potential for electoral fraud. The fighting around Tripoli has claimed over 1,000 lives and led to over 120,000 displaced, with concerning reports of airstrikes in civilian areas and increasing attacks on civilian infrastructure. It is vital that all sides engage in a durable ceasefire, ensure humanitarian access, and return to UN-led political talks. The UK is calling on all parties to engage with the UN and humanitarian community, and respect International Humanitarian Law. Aid must be allowed to reach those in need and civilians, including refugees and migrants, must be evacuated to safety.</p><p> </p><p>The UK funds a £3.29 million humanitarian programme to provide multi-sector humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in Libya, improve access to primary health care, build capacity of health care workers, and bolster humanitarian coordination and capability. Earlier this year £1 million was given to the UN Flash Appeal. Funding to the World Health Organisation will deliver lifesaving medical care, including surgery in frontline referral hospitals, and primary healthcare supplies for 150,000 patients. Our current four year £64 million Building Resilient Communities in Somalia programme has fully integrated the prevention and treatment of malnutrition within the overall community driven approach and will contribute to improved outcomes for malnourished children. The programme is expected to support at least 160,000 women and children through malnutrition treatment and prevention services by 2022. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/11/2019 answer text <p>Through our livelihoods and resilience programming in South Sudan, DFID is working with partners to tackle the underlying causes of food insecurity and malnutrition. This includes: supporting households to diversify their income and food sources through crop and vegetable production, fishing and small livestock; working with traders to kick start markets; and supporting training that builds the knowledge and skills which underpin nutritious diets.</p><p> </p><p>These approaches complement the life-saving provision of food, water, nutrition products and medicine through DFID’s humanitarian programming. In addition, DFID’s Health Pooled Fund programme is improving access to nutrition services – both screening and treatment – as part of a package of life-saving care in 800 health centres across South Sudan.
