unstar this property answer text
The Government has no plans to change the 20 year duration of support under the Renewables Obligation (RO) for accredited solar PV stations. DECC has recently consulted on proposals to control the deployment of new solar PV capacity above 5MW under the RO. A copy of the consultation document is available on DECC’s web page:

https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/consultation-on-changes-to-financial-support-for-solar-pv

With regard to our policy on the RO scheme, DECC has laid draft Regulations before Parliament which will bring about the closure of the RO to new capacity on 31 March 2017 as planned, subject to Parliamentary approval. The Government has proposed closing the RO to new solar capacity above 5MW two years earlier, from 31 March 2015. We consider this to be necessary because large-scale solar PV is deploying more rapidly than expected. This poses a substantial risk to our ability to manage the levy control framework budget, and therefore our ability to minimise costs of renewables deployment for consumers. The consultation closed on 7 July and consultation responses are being considered. We will publish a Government Response setting out our decision as soon as possible.

The UK has seen a remarkable transformation in solar PV deployment under the Coalition Government: solar capacity stood at 3.5GW at the end of the first quarter of 2014, increasing its share to 17 per cent of all renewables capacity. The Government remains committed to solar PV, and the measures that we set out in our UK Solar PV Strategy will ensure that solar PV continues to be a vital part of the UK’s renewable energy mix for many years to come. A copy of the Strategy is available on DECC’s web page:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-solar-pv-strategy-part-1-roadmap-to-a-brighter-future.

unstar this property answer text
Preventing extremism in all schools is a priority for the Government, and the Department for Education established a dedicated Due Diligence and Counter Extremism Division (previously known as the Preventing Extremism Unit) in October 2010 to oversee this work.

The Division’s aim is to ensure that children and young people in England are safeguarded from extremists and extremist views in schools or in out of school hours learning, and prevent young people from becoming radicalised or acting on extreme views. The Division is staffed by civil servants with support from specialists with expertise in security matters.

Schools can help protect children from extremist and violent views in the same ways that they help to safeguard children from drugs, gang violence or alcohol abuse. Schools’ work on the Government’s Prevent strategy needs to be seen in this context. It is for local authorities to determine how best to support schools in their areas in the light of local circumstances.

unstar this property answer text
We remain committed to the introduction of a national funding formula after the next spending review, when we can give certainty to schools about how the formula will affect them over a number of years. In the meantime, our allocation of an extra £390 million to the least fairly-funded local authorities in the country will make a real difference to those local authorities, such as Warrington, that gain from the proposals.

According to our indicative figures, Warrington will gain an additional £500,000 in 2015-16.
more like this

unstar this property answer text
The gap between free school meals (FSM) pupils and others achieving Level 4 or above in key stage 2 reading and mathematics has narrowed from 19.3 to 16.2 percentage points between 2011 and 2013. The gap in FSM pupils and others achieving at least five A*-C grade GCSEs including English and mathematics has narrowed from 27.4 to 26.7 percentage points over the same period.

The most recent Ofsted assessment is that school leaders are spending the pupil premium more effectively than at any time since the funding was introduced in 2011. Of 151 schools in the assessment, the attainment gap between free school meal pupils and their peers was closing, sometimes quite quickly, in all 86 schools judged by Ofsted to be good or outstanding. Gaps are also closing, albeit more slowly, in two thirds of the 50 sampled schools rated ‘requires improvement’.
more like this
