Details of this funding can be found in the TSB and BIS annual reports.</p><table><tbody><tr><td><p><strong>£ million</strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2010-11</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2011-12</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2012-13</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2013-14</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Item</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>(a) Capital Research Funding</strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>(ii) Facilities</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>National Measurement Office (NMO)</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>6.2</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>7.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>9.2</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>8.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>A</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong>Gaster Wind Tunnel</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.7</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>B</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>(b) Resource Research Funding</strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td><td><p><strong> </strong></p></td></tr><tr><td rowspan="8"><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>(i) Projects</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>NMO – National Physical Laboratory</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>49.2</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>46.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>46.6</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>47.3</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>A</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>NMO - Other</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>5.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>8.5</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>8.3</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>8.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>A</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>Foresight Programme</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2.0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>2.2</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>1.8</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>C</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>UK-US Global Innovation Initiative</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.7</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>D</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>Commonwealth Scholarships</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>E</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>UK-SA Science Seminars</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>F</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>Public Attitudes to Science 2014 Report</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.4</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>G</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td><p><strong>STEM Interventions Report</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>0.1</strong></p></td><td><p><strong>H</strong></p></td></tr></tbody></table><p>The assessments of the outcomes of the research funding will be the responsibility of the organisations that have been funded in each case, as set out below.</p><p>A National Measurement Office</p><p>B Aerospace Technology Institute</p><p>C Government Office for Science</p><p>D British Council</p><p>E Commonwealth Scholarship Commission</p><p>F Royal Society</p><p>G Ipsos-MORI</p><p>H University of London</p>

answer
unstar this property answer text <p> </p><p>I have spoken to the Chief Executive of the Green Investment Bank (GIB) about the proposed plant at Avonmouth to ensure he is aware of the concerns that have been raised about it. The impacts of individual proposals for biomass power projects are subject to detailed assessment during the planning approval process and final decisions in each case are a matter for the relevant planning authority. This proposal received planning consent in March 2010. The final consent letter may be found on the DECC Energy Infrastructure webpage at <a href="https://www.og.decc.gov.uk/EIP/pages/projects/Avonmouth.htm" target="_blank">https://www.og.decc.gov.uk/EIP/pages/projects/Avonmouth.htm</a>. I cannot comment on the merits of that decision.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government's position on the role of biomass power within the UK's energy mix has been set out clearly in the UK Bioenergy Strategy (2012) which can be found on the Government's website at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-bioenergy-strategy" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-bioenergy-strategy</a>. Thissets out how the Government seeks to ensure the benefits of bioenergy are achieved in a way that delivers genuine carbon reductions and that fuel is sourced sustainably. The extensive sustainability requirements in place for the use of biomass fuel are set out in the UK Government Response to the consultation on biomass sustainability and the Renewables Obligation (RO), published in August 2013 (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/231102/RO_Biomass_Sustainability_consultation_-_Government_Response_22_August_2013.pdf" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/231102/RO_Biomass_Sustainability_consultation_-_Government_Response_22_August_2013.pdf</a>). In considering whether to participate in financing a biomass power project, GIB must satisfy itself that the Government's sustainability requirements are fully met.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer
unstar this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to increasing compliance with minimum wage legislation and effective enforcement of it. Everyone who is entitled to the minimum wage should receive it. HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) enforces the National Minimum Wage (NMW) on behalf of BIS.</p><p>HMRC investigates every complaint made to the Pay and Work Rights helpline and deals with each NMW complaint on a case-by-case basis. The timescale for each case is dependent on a number of factors:</p><ul><li>the complexity of the issues</li><li>the size of employer</li><li>the cooperation of the employer</li><li>the enforcement route required</li></ul><p>In 2013/14, HMRC investigated 1631 cases. Of these, 1084 cases were closed; 565 cases were closed within 120 days; 519 cases were closed outside of 120 days and 547 cases are still open and yet to be concluded.</p><p>Please note that investigations may not commence and be completed in the same financial year.</p> more like this
