Friend the Secretary of State did not meet with President Trump during the US state visit, the Secretary of State has stressed in discussions with US counterparts that the UK would prefer the US to remain in the Paris Agreement. During the visit, the Prime Minister raised the issue of climate change with President Trump directly and underlined the UK’s support for the Paris Agreement.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK played a major role in securing the Paris Agreement and we remain committed to it.</p><p> </p><p>The Paris Agreement is the framework by which countries set out their plans to meet their emissions reduction targets. It is then the individual country’s domestic policy frameworks and market forces which determine how those targets will be achieved in practice.</p><p> </p><p>I am pleased to see renewed international, state and city level commitments to tackling climate change and statements in support of the Paris Agreement. The UK will continue to work with the US and other international partners to promote the transition to a low carbon economy.</p> more like this

Friend the Prime Minister spoke to the US President following his decision to pull the US out of the Paris Agreement, expressing her disappointment with the decision and stressing that the UK remained committed to the Paris Agreement, as she set out at the G7 Leaders’ Summit.</p><p> </p><p>The Department is in frequent contact with the US Administration, including on issues related to climate change.</p><p> </p><p>We will continue to work with the US to encourage them to show the leadership they have in the past on reducing carbon emissions.</p><p> </p><p>The Paris Agreement is irreversible and its integrity is key for the security and prosperity of our planet, societies and economies.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this
