	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/11/2018 answer text <p>The UK continues to fulfil its role as penholder on Yemen in the UN Security Council by coordinating sessions with the Security Council President that respond to developments in Yemen and the will of the Council as a whole. On Monday 19 November, the UK circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution calling for a cessation of hostilities, steps to improve the humanitarian situation, and support for the work of the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths. Both the Foreign Secretary and I have recently visited the Middle East to have constructive discussions with the Saudi-led Coalition on pathways to achieve de-escalation and reduce tensions. Diplomacy and negotiation remain the only path to ending the conflict.</p><p>The indications are that both sides will come to Stockholm in the coming days for meaningful talks hosted by the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths. We encourage both sides to engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict.</p><p>A UN Security Council resolution is one of the means we are pursuing in order to achieve a lasting political and humanitarian solution. We regularly raise the importance of compliance with IHL with the Saudi Arabian Government and other members of the Coalition. The Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) is the Coalition mechanism for investigating allegations of IHL violations. On Monday 12 November, the Foreign Secretary held constructive talks with the senior leadership of Saudi Arabia addressing the importance of respect for IHL, and the need for an urgent end to the conflict in Yemen, and a swift improvement in the dire humanitarian situation. The Yemeni Government and the Houthis agreed on a ceasefire and redeployments of forces in Hodeidah Governorate, an exchange of prisoners, and an understanding on easing the situation in Ta'iz. On 16 January, the UN Security Council voted unanimously to back the UK-led resolution which bolsters the UN Yemen peace process. It will establish a six month UN mission to monitor the Hodeidah ceasefire. The ceasefire is an important step towards peace but by no means guaranteed. We are working closely with the UN to encourage parties to engage in good faith without preconditions in future talks. We are encouraging all parties to reinstate a ceasefire at the next round of talks and are working closely with the UN to achieve this. This is being achieved through Ambassadorial and Ministerial engagement with the Yemeni government and the UN. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/06/2016 answer text <p>The UK supports the Saudi Arabian-led Coalition military intervention in Yemen, which came at the request of legitimate President Hadi to deter aggression by the Houthis and forces loyal to the former president Saleh. Saudi Arabia and the Coalition have played a crucial role in this endeavour. Peace talks are now the top priority. During the Foreign Secretary’s visit to the Gulf in late May and early June, all countries reassured of their commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen. The UK is working closely with the UN to encourage the Yemeni parties to engage in good faith in the peace talks in Kuwait and respect the ceasefire which started on 10 April. The UK’s funding for the UN Special Envoy for Yemen’s office, alongside support from other donors, is assisting the UN-led peace process. It enables the UN to recruit technical experts on issues such as mediation, ceasefire design and monitoring, and disarmament and demobilisation.
