star this property answer text <p>It is already illegal for taxi and Private Hire Vehicle drivers to refuse to carry an assistance dog or to charge their owner more for a journey. Local licensing authorities should ensure that drivers are aware of their duties, and that appropriate action, including prosecution, is taken where non-compliance is identified.</p><p> </p><p>There is also already a legal duty for service providers to provide reasonable adjustments to disabled people so that they are not put at a significant disadvantage compared to non-disabled people, which may include allowing access for assistance dogs where animals would not normally be permitted.</p><p> </p><p>The Office for Disability Issues has been facilitating the assistance dog sector to work together to look at access and supply issues, with a view to creating an accredited UK standard. This work is ongoing but if a standard can be achieved this should reduce the likelihood of access refusals.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government introduced ground-breaking regulations in 2017 requiring large employers to publish gender pay gap data.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise that reporting is just the start; we are committed to ensuring that the UK is an international leader on gender equality research.</p><p> </p><p>This year, we published the Case for Change, an in-depth analysis of how economic gender inequalities develop across people’s lives. In this, we highlight research we published in 2018, led by the University of Manchester, that identified four key drivers of the UK Gender Pay Gap:</p><p> </p><ul><li><p>Occupational segregation - the types of jobs that women tend to do are less well paid than the types of jobs men do.</p></li><li><p>Industrial segregation - the sectors of the economy that women tend to work in are less well paid than the sectors that men work in.</p></li><li><p>Differences in the ways men and women participate in the labour market - women tend to spend more years out of the labour market undertaking unpaid care work than men, and tend to have fewer years of full-time work experience.</p></li><li><p>Other factors that cannot be explained by the data we have, but could include discrimination, harassment, preferences and choices.</p></li></ul><p>To address these drivers, we published the Gender Equality Roadmap in July, setting out the Government’s vision and actions to address the persistent gendered barriers people face across their lives. Furthermore, our new annual Gender Equality Monitor brings together 24 indicators on gender equality from all areas of life to help us better measure progress over time.</p><p>We are also running two research programmes, Women and Gender Equality and Gender and Behavioural Insights, to develop the evidence base on gender equality in the workplace. Findings from this research is being used to identify practical actions for employers and organisations to support women’s progression in the workplace and reduce their gender pay gap.</p>

star this property answer text <p>This Government strongly supports gender equality and condemns discrimination on the grounds of gender. That is why we are committed to review non-disclosure agreements and any evidence that is coming forward about how they are being used. The Government will also be publishing guidance on employee dress codes, so that employers and employees are aware of how these may constitute discrimination or lead to harassment in the workplace.</p><p>We are also committed to increasing diversity on FTSE boards and in senior executive roles. There is a higher percentage of women on company boards than ever before – more than doubling in the last six years. However, we need to maintain momentum and that is why we are supporting the work of the business led, Hampton-Alexander Review and their voluntary targets for 33% FTSE 350 board directors and senior executives to be women by 2020.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The majority of part-time workers are women, especially mothers of young children, and they often choose part-time work in order to balance work and family care. The unequal sharing of childcare responsibilities between men and women is a key driver of the gender pay gap. The Government is committed to tackling the gender pay gap, including through introducing a legal requirement for business to report their gender pay gaps in April this year. The Government has also taken measures to help parents to balance work and childcare. We introduced the right to request flexible working in 2014, and we have also introduced tax-free childcare and 30 hours free childcare for working parents of 3 and 4 year olds to support working families. We also launched a communications campaign on Shared Parental Leave on 12 February.</p><p>In response to Matthew Taylor’s Good Work report the Government will launch a joint taskforce with industry on flexible working to unlock the potential in the labour market, including amongst women.</p>

star this property answer text <p>In 2017 the Government introduced ground-breaking regulations requiring large employers to publish specific gender pay gap data.</p><p>Employers have to report their gender pay gap by the deadline, 30 March for the public sector and 4 April for the private and voluntary sector. This is not optional; it is the law.</p><p>Employers who fail to report on time or publish inaccurate data will be in breach of the regulations. They risk facing legal action from the Equality and Human Rights Commission, which has the power to take enforcement action against employers breaching the regulations. This could ultimately lead to court orders and fines.</p> more like this

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has powers to enforce compliance with this requirement. The EHRC has published a policy paper on its intended approach to enforcement here https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/publication-download/closing-gap-enforcing-gender-pay-gap-regulations.</p><p>More generally, the EHRC's 2017-18 Business Plan commits it to working with employers to demonstrate how changes to recruitment, retention, pay decisions and career pipelines can narrow pay gaps.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The EHRC has submitted this report to the United Nations as part of its work on monitoring the Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women.</p><p>The Government is firmly committed to tackling the major injustices across Great Britain that hold women back, including eliminating violence against women and girls and closing the gender pay gap. We have already made significant progress on safeguarding and improving women’s rights.</p><p>The draft EU Withdrawal Agreement, once finalised and agreed will allow the UK to continue participation in EU programmes until their closure, including the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Fund, which promotes non-discrimination, combats racism, xenophobia, homophobia and other forms of intolerance as well as promoting rights and equality.</p><p>This Government has already made a clear commitment to protect workers’ rights, and ensure that they keep pace with the changing labour market, including in our recent white paper on the future relationship between the UK and the EU. We do not need to be part of the EU to have strong protections in the workplace. The UK already goes beyond EU minimum standards in a number of areas, such as entitlement to annual leave, paid maternity leave and parental leave.</p>

All ministerial departments in scope of the regulations in fact reported their gender pay gap data before the end of 2017. Staff working in executive agencies are included in the relevant department’s gender pay gap reports.</p><p>The majority of non-ministerial departments have also already reported.</p> more like this
