The Task Force objective is to share experience and best practice on planning and delivering major infrastructure projects. The former Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion (Baroness Fairhead) had policy responsibility for the objectives of the Task Force. Until a successor is in post, my Hon. Our bilateral trade was £6.6bn in 2018, an increase of 16.4% from 2017. UK exports to Taiwan grew by 40% from £1.96bn to £2.76bn (latest [ONS] data). As we leave the EU, we are committed to strengthening our trade partnership with Taiwan, and across Asia Pacific, including through the annual UK-Taiwan Trade Talks – due to take place in London in October. As a responsible Government, we have been preparing to minimise any disruption in the event of no deal for more than two years.</p><p> </p><p>The Public Information Campaign [GOV.UK] and our international information campaign on great.gov.uk give businesses in the UK and Europe the information they need to prepare for EU Exit. It includes technical notices on trade remedies, existing free trade agreements and UK trade tariffs after EU Exit. Alongside the Withdrawal Agreement, the EU undertook to notify its treaty partners that the UK is treated as a Member State for the purposes of EU international agreements during the Implementation Period.</p><p> </p><p>Nevertheless, we continue to work on replicating the effects of existing trade agreements with Canada and the Southern African Customs Union and Mozambique partner countries, which includes South Africa. The IMF recently estimated this to be in the order of -0.5% of global GDP in 2020. The UK is engaging with partners across the globe to seek a resolution. We are clear that nobody benefits from trade wars.</p><p> </p><p>The UK shares some of the US’s concerns with China’s trade practices and believes they should be addressed through structural reform in China and through multilateral cooperation, including ambitious reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The UK supports a global rules-based trade system. These cover issues such as mutual recognition of conformity assessment in certain sectors. The UK has now completed work to transition these agreements to bilateral UK-US agreements. They are ready to come into effect when the UK leaves the EU.</p><p> </p><p>On 14 February 2019, the UK and US signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on Conformity Assessment to ensure continuity of mutual recognition in the following three sectors: good manufacturing practice for pharmaceuticals, telecommunications equipment, and electromagnetic compatibility. Other agreements, including on wine, spirits and marine equipment have been signed between the UK and US to ensure continuity as the UK leaves the EU.</p><p> </p><p>These agreements do not cover all of UK trade with the US. The US continues to be our single largest bilateral trading partner.
