Our legal framework already ensures that employers should always treat their employees fairly, and our Good Work Plan will introduce the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation.</p><p> </p><p>In the retail sector specifically, the industry-led Retail Sector Council has identified employment as a priority workstream and this will be discussed at our next meeting on 20 June.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring the safety of consumers and I have personally been involved in issues related to Whirlpool tumble dryers since my appointment.</p><p> </p><p>The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) was tasked with reviewing the effectiveness of Whirlpool’s technical modification and the adequacy of its consumer outreach Programme, and that review was published on 4th April.</p><p> </p><p>OPSS issued a Decision Letter setting out the requirements that Whirlpool must take to improve its management of risk and its communications with customers on 2nd April. Whirlpool were given 28 days to respond setting out the actions they will take.</p><p> </p><p>The General Product Safety Regulations 2005 provides powers to deal with goods to ensure the safety of consumers and OPSS will continue to take appropriate steps to hold Whirlpool to account and will continue to be actively engaged in respect of the Whirlpool tumble dryer safety issue.</p> more like this

This is why the Government committed to safeguard the post office network and protect existing rural services. The overall number of post offices across the UK remains at its most stable in decades with over 11,500 branches thanks to significant Government investment of over £2 billion since 2010.</p><p> </p><p>While the Government sets the strategic direction for the Post Office, it allows the company the commercial freedom to deliver this strategy as an independent business. Postmasters and their relationship with Post Office Limited is an operational matter for Post Office Limited. I have therefore asked Alisdair Cameron, the Group interim Chief Executive of Post Office Limited, to write to the hon Member on this matter. A copy of his reply will be placed in the Libraries of the House.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Adoption of a CENELEC standard as a British standard is a matter for the British Standardisation Institution (BSI). BSI published the revised CENELEC standard as the British Standard on 31 March 2019. The use of standards generally is voluntary. As a reference to the CENELEC standard has not been published in the Official Journal by the European Commission, it cannot give presumption of conformity with requirements of the legislation.</p><p> </p><p>The Government continues to work with BSI and other stakeholders such as the London Fire Brigade at international level to further enhance safety standards and drive up best practice. However, business must comply with the essential safety requirements of the legislation.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Enforcement of the National Minimum and National Living Wage (NMW) is a priority for the Government. Since 2015 we have doubled the budget to enforce the NMW and we are taking tough action against the minority of employers who underpay. In 2018/19 HM Revenue &amp; Customs (HMRC) identified a record £24.4 million in arrears for over 220,000 workers and issued over £17 million in penalties to non-compliant employers.</p><p> </p><p>Later this year, we will publish a NMW enforcement and compliance report. This report will discuss the state of NMW non-compliance for 2018/19; the recommendations made by the LPC in their April 2019 report; and plans for NMW enforcement over the coming year.</p> more like this
