star this property answer text <p>The UK maintains that a short set of goals and targets to replace the Millennium Development Goals would be ideal, but we recognise the strong consensus among UN member states to maintain the Sustainable Development goals and targets on the Open Working Group in their current form.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK has consistently supported the content of the proposed Sustainable Development Goals. We welcome in particular Goal 1 on ending extreme poverty, Goal 5 on Gender which strongly reflects UK priorities including ending female genital mutilation and early forced marriage, and Goal 16 on peaceful and inclusive societies, good governance, and access to justice.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DFID Burma’s funding for education through religious organisations has the key policy objective of increasing the number and proportion of children who complete a quality basic education. The programme is delivered through the Myanmar Education Consortium which works with a range of Non-Governmental Organisations, including faith-based organisations, provided that i) the education services are available to members of different religious communities, ii) the project activities supported do not aim to proselytize or explicitly promote a particular religion, iii) where possible promote inter-communal peace and conflict resolution, and iv) do not engage in any action that could promote inter-communal tensions.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

In particular we welcomed his proposal for six ‘essential elements’ as a way to communicate the agenda in an inspiring and concise way to citizens everywhere. In the past year alone, this has included building treatment centres to defeat Ebola in Sierra Leone, delivering life-saving aid to Syrian refugees, and providing shelter to people who have lost their homes in the Nepal earthquake. A recent Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) report noted that the rates paid by DFID were “highly competitive”. Individual companies set the rates for their contractors.</p> more like this

This includes in our country programmes and humanitarian responses, through DFID-supported social protection programmes such as the Senior Citizen’s Grant in Uganda and by committing to making age-disaggregated data is a requirement for humanitarian financing. DFID also funds a number of civil society organisations who support older people, including a significant partnership with HelpAge International. DFID’s disability framework, published in December 2014, highlights the importance of specifically addressing the needs of older people.</p> more like this
