star this property answer text The UK economy is fundamentally strong and our research and innovation are world leading. We have a long established system that supports, and therefore attracts, the brightest minds, at all stages of their careers. We fund excellent science wherever it is found, and ensure there is the freedom to tackle important scientific questions. While the UK remains a member of the EU, current EU arrangements continue unchanged, including those that apply to students, researchers, and businesses. We remain fully open to scientists and researchers from across the EU. We hugely value the contribution of EU and international staff and there are no immediate changes to their rights to live and work in the UK. The Government intends to maintain and enhance the strength of our research base, which is why we have protected the science resource budget in real terms from its 2015/16 level of £4.7 billion for the rest of the parliament. more like this

star this property answer text <ul><li>The first Contract For Difference (CfD) allocation round results, published in 2015, saw over 1.2 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity secure contracts, estimated at the time of the auction to cost consumers just over £240 million per year (2012 prices).</li><li>The second round results, announced in September 2017, saw the clearing price half for offshore wind delivered in the auction; we secured an additional 3.2 gigawatts of new offshore wind capacity, estimated at the time of the auction to cost consumers just over £130 million per year (2012 prices).</li><li>There are many factors that affect payments under these contracts, which mean that actual costs may go up or down.</li><li>These results demonstrate that the UK is an attractive place to invest, with a record amount of renewable capacity secured to power our homes.</li><li>The price of offshore wind clearing through the auction has halved in two years, demonstrating that competitive auctions are working well to drive down costs and deliver savings for consumers, whilst delivering the government’s decarbonisation ambitions.</li></ul>

star this property answer text <p>‘Shill bidding’ refers to the practice during an online auction of a seller or a seller’s acquaintance placing bids on his or her goods in order to drive up the price. Trading Standards have brought successful prosecutions against sellers engaging in these practices under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 and will continue to do so where appropriate.</p><p><em> </em></p><p>Anyone who feels they have been the victim of a fraudulent sale should contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133 or 0808 223 1144 (Welsh speaking). They provide help and advice on consumers’ rights. Citizens Advice will refer cases to Trading Standards offices for enforcement action where necessary.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>‘Electronics, Photonics and Quantum’ was one of seven technology families defined by the Government in the Innovation Strategy (HMG 2021), which highlighted UK strengths in high potential emerging technologies.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is a global leader in photonics, which contributed £14.5 billion to the UK economy in 2020. Government is keen to see this contribution grow across many applications, including manufacturing and agriculture. Agriculture was specifically cited in the Innovation Strategy as a domain for the convergence of the technology families.</p><p> </p><p>Photonics was also included within the National Security Investment Act (NSI) to ensure its growth and adoption is secure.</p> more like this
