star this property answer text <p>The Department has not conducted any recent research on the effect of treatment of staff on standards of care and on the relationship between levels of pay and quality of social care services.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>As part of the development of Caring for our Future white paper in 2011, the Department undertook extensive engagement with both service users and carers who highlighted range of issues they felt needed addressing to ensure high quality care and support is available. In addressing this, the Department, working with the Sector Skills Council - Skills for Care - and other partners, has implemented a range of policies that has included setting out clear minimum training standards, recruiting more apprentices and supporting the transformation of the social work profession.</p><p> </p> more like this

This is why the Government is committing to publishing a Green Paper by summer 2018 setting out its proposals for reform.</p><p> </p><p>In developing the Green Paper, it is right that we take the time needed to debate the many complex issues and listen to the perspectives of experts and care users, building consensus around reforms which can succeed. This is why we are starting a process of initial engagement over the coming months through which the Government will work with experts, stakeholders and users to shape the long-term reforms that will be proposed in the Green Paper.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department has prioritised prevention and through the Care Act 2014 it requires local authorities to provide or arrange for the provision of services, facilities or resources that will contribute towards preventing, delaying or reducing the needs for care and support of adults and carers.</p><p> </p><p>For 2017/18, the Department has provided £7.274 million funding to the Local Government Association to provide sector led improvement support to councils. This includes support to help councils meet their prevention responsibilities. The programme is focusing on building leadership capacity and capability on integration and providing evidence-based decision-making in prevention and early intervention.</p> more like this

Friend the First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, Damian Green, has announced this month that the Government will publish a Green Paper on care and support for older people by summer 2018. The Green Paper will set out proposals to reform care and support for older people.</p><p> </p><p>With the shifts we are seeing in society, including our ageing population, caring will increasingly become a core part of family life for all of us. That is why the Green Paper will include a focus on unpaid care and how our society supports carers as a vital part of a sustainable health and social care system.</p><p> </p><p>Ahead of the Green Paper’s publication, the Department will continue to lead a cross-Government programme of targeted work to support carers.</p><p> </p><p>Once the Green Paper is published by summer 2018, it will be subject to a full public consultation.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Social care is vital to enable people to live healthy and independent lives. This is why, against the context of tough public sector finances, we have taken steps to protect social care services.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has already invested an additional £2 billion to put social care on a more stable footing and alleviate short-term pressures across the health and care system. However, further reform is required to ensure that the system is prepared to meet the challenges of the increasing numbers of over 75s.</p><p> </p><p>We will work to address the challenges of social care for our ageing population, bringing forward proposals for consultation to build widespread support. We have committed to a wide and open consultation on our proposals, and want to work collaboratively with partners on these critical issues.</p><p> </p><p>We will provide further details on the next steps on social care in due course.</p> more like this
