	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/06/2016 answer text <p>On 14 December 2015, the Government formally announced that it accepted the case for airport expansion in the South-East and agreed with the Airports Commission’s shortlist of options. The Government also decided to undertake a package of further work which it anticipates will conclude over the summer. This has included further work to help develop the best possible package of measures for all the shortlisted schemes to mitigate the impacts on local people and the environment.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The decision on a preferred scheme is of huge importance and the Government continues to consider the detailed analysis contained in the Airports Commission’s final report before taking any decisions on next steps. The costs associated with the Lakeside Energy from Waste Plant were considered in the Airports Commission’s assessment of land acquisition costs in the report “Cost and Commercial Viability<em>: Cost and Revenue Identification Update Heathrow Airport North West Runway”. </em></p><p> </p><p>Decisions have not yet been taken on a preferred scheme. As a result, there is limited information available regarding the impacts both positive and negative following this change in the law. In order to achieve this, all potential cyclists’ needs must be considered.</p><p> </p><p>The Government recently reaffirmed its commitment to cycling and walking, with SR2015 announcing funding support of over £300m. We believe that cycle safety training can give children the skills and confidence they need to cycle on local roads.</p><p> </p><p>Bikeability is the Government's long-standing programme of cycle training for school children, with over 1.7 million children trained since 2010. It is available to every local body in England (London has separate funding arrangements for Bikeability). Funding of £12 million a year has been confirmed for the next four years. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2016 answer text <p>The Government is fully committed to creating a safe environment for all road users, and in particular vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Sections 204 – 225 of the Highway Code, aims to educate and remind drivers of the needs of more vulnerable road users including cyclists.</p><p> </p><p>A revised Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions came into force on 22 April, which contains a number of measures, including low level cycle signals, a new type of crossing and changes to advanced stop lines, designed to improve the safety of cyclists on the road. TSRGD also includes changes making it easier for local authorities to introduce 20mph speed limits in residential areas.</p><p> </p><p>We are also working on wider cyclist safety in other ways, including changes to vehicle design, publicity campaigns, and mandatory training for HGV drivers and optional training for cyclists, including extending the Bikeability programme of cycle training.
